Re: Storytelling potential of choices

Choices are amazing because they open up new possibilities. By giving a choice, your opening up an oppurtunity for your characters to be in different situations and react differently. Interesting facts about the story can be hinted, small details can be disclosed, and bad ends of course can be had. ...

Re: Otome games and older men

I suppose when you look at the "idealized" version of an older guy in a game where there everyone is in an idealized high school romance guy, then yeah, he'll probably be tall, have a deep voice, run a multinational corporation and wear suits all the time while flirting in monotone. In rea...

Re: Styles of Turn-Based RPGs

I've thought of this many times when thinking of how to turn my stories into a playable experience, specifically one of my favorite genres (RPGS). It's got to fit your story. It's got to BE part of your story, I believe, or there's a disconnect. For example, I'm brainstorming an SRPG in which a mide...

Re: Recommended Books on Writing?

The only book on writing I'v ever read was Steven Kings' "On Writing". It's a great autobiography and explains writing "rules" in a very refreshing way. However, I've always thought the way you write better is do two things: 1.Write everyday. 2.Read everyday. Writing isn't someth...

Re: How to get rid of the unwanted things in .PNG?

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii30/ShinigamiHaru/shime1-1.gif He looks a little silly right here. xD It looks a bit strange to me seeing as how his upper body isn't moving at all. People bob up and down when they walk. Also, it looks to me like he's taking one step then returning to the origin...

Re: You have a game - now what?

Of course the best time to advertise is when something is done. Otherwise there's really no point if someone is going to see your project, notice it's unusable, and completely forget about it once they hit the back button. I would imagine some people would stick around to see what would come of it, ...

Re: Question about doing both the art and writing for a game

I prefer drawing the characters before writing the script. That gives me something of a less personal view of them -- all of their routes, passions, secrets ect are not solid and defined, and so you can really concentrate on drawing the character as a someone from the perspective of the player--some...

Re: Specialised contest musing

I think that sounds awesome! The amount of variety that one could put into such a game would be huge and really emphasize the novel part of visual novel, without sacrificing the medium as a whole. Not to mention it be a great conversation starter about what good writing really is in a visual novel, ...

Those look like some really high quality sources, thanks for sharing.

I especially love the "Detect" theme in the BGM section. So mysterious and exciting!

Re: How long do you wait?

I would love to start working on all the ideas I feel really work right at the moment, but most of the time i'm not a place to do so, so I jot it down so i can remember it later. Then of course, you figure out what's good by doing them all!

Re: Western and Eastern Games

I think it's silly to divide visual novels into "western" and "eastern" audience targets. You should make an rpg the way you want it to come out and do the same with a visual novel -- there's no rule that says jrpgs must be storycentric and wrpgs gameplaycentric. Both nations enj...

New sprite for Everlaster, this time in his masked uniform. The hands and legs need some defenite toning and I'm ot sure what he should hold yet, but I'm liking the feathers near his mask a lo.

Regular sprite image for Everlaster. Still a lot to work on, but it looks pretty good now.
