Re: How can I stop making sexist games?

Oof. I'm still trying to sift through all that advice, so bear with me if I still need a little time to get it all ordered in a way my mind can process it. A few things that stuck out to me, right now: Some of you have recommended making the Bechdel test as one way (though not the only one) of chec...

Re: Advice on Writing Narrative in VNs

But if you show too much and never tell the story will come to a halt because it has to show every damn thing. In your revised version, as you said yourself, the feel is different, but you have no way of knowing if that was the feeling the author was going for. Show don't tell is good advice, becaus...

Re: How can I stop making sexist games?

but I think cutting out female traits altogether is the wrong approach. And these are? Are we ignoring biology? Or that many social customs and norms are dependent on gender? Or that men and women approach problems and situations in different ways, or that certain options that are available to one ...

Re: How can I stop making sexist games?

There isn't a proper way to write women beyond making them interesting characters (I am not even going to say well rounded because women can be side characters too). Perhaps a genre idea or something more specific about what you want to write next would help. Or just want kind of character you want....

Re: How can I stop making sexist games?

Sigh - I had a whole long text and then I accidentially deleted it. :( The first thing to remember is that the following is ONLY ADVISE. As other has said the best to do is to write interesting characters first, but we are all biased, and I will be the first to admit that writing interesting charact...

Re: Writing trans characters and other genders in dating gam

I think that the biggest problem is that many fantasy writers just copy paste real world's prejudices without thinking about the reasons we have them or if they even makes cultarally sense in the made up world. I never bothered with Game of Thrones so I can't say if makes cultrally sense for sexism ...

Re: Breaking the fourth wall?

Ferris Bueller? Friendly? Actually Ferris Bueller is a good example off where I found 4th wall breaking annoyed me, because I disliked the character (I identified so much more with the best friend and sister) and just wanted him to shut up and get to school already. I personally prefer story telling...

Re: Self Insert MC's Versus MC's with Personality

I have only rarely felt that I played a character that I felt had was truely blank slade and being able to self insert where I could play as myself in a vn and thus self insert characters often just become bland characters that I don't care about. Blank slade/self insert doesn't work for me in VN's ...

Re: Protag is a liar to audience

Hmm... You might be right, Mad Harlequinn. Now that I think about it, in the first zero escape 999, we actually do have a lying first person narrator. As far as I remember it, when the final plot twist comes around, the narrator reveal herself to be first person and certainly a liar in many, many wa...

Re: Protag is a liar to audience

To be fair some writers (and I assume game makers too) do try to make the players mad and it can be a valuable tool in questining the genre and the medium, but I don't think was quite what Ishvke was going for. At least that's not the impression I get from the story description.

Re: Protag is a liar to audience

In my opinion os a third person narrator actully more difficult to have unnreliable than a first person because more often than not the third person narrator is not a character as much a story telling device. (As all else in narratives, there are many exceptions to this). First person narrators are ...

Re: Allégro: a Ballet dating sim. [GxB & GxG]

I really like the protagonist, espically her body type which is like a slight exaggaration of my own. Normally you only see girls with either hour-glass or no curves, so it is nice to have other shapes acknowlegded.
