Re: What are some of your artistic tricks?
I love photoshop's brushes. They make painting backgrounds faster and fun.

Re: Ren'Py Tile Engine and Tileset
You're going to need to build the image in another program like Tiled ( http://www.mapeditor.org/ ) and bake it together so it's a single image. Two if you want your sprite to walk behind anything. You might be able to make a tile based image in it, but it wouldn't run well and changing scenes would...

Re: Modular Backgrounds (CC BY-NC 3.0)
:D Thank you! I'll work on trees and grass next. I've wanted to do great backgrounds for a while, but instead of practicing I did a lot of studying real life images, how my favorite pictures were done, and reading lots of tutorials. It seems to be paying off, though I don't think I could have pulled...

Re: Modular Backgrounds (CC BY-NC 3.0)
Really? Thank you! I'm really new at making backgrounds, I usually do characters and pixels. I wasn't sure if it was any good at all, or even useful.

Here are some examples of how these can be used.

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
It's harder with art. This isn't what you do, it's who you are. Your mom is a part of your life and you want her to be a part of that aspect of you, and she keeps refusing. You have every right to be upset about it.

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
Why do some people do that? When I was young, my mom was like this with cleaning. Even if we sorted and scrubbed for hours as a surprise, her comments would be a list of ways we missed stuff or did it wrong. My dad and I have had lots of talks with her about it, and she doesn't even realize she's do...

Modular Backgrounds (CC BY-NC 3.0)
These images are meant to be layered together so you can make the background you need. Ground layers like the sand, ocean and snow are full screen so you can put the horizon where you want. If you do, layer the horizon.png over it to make an atmospheric haze. I'll be adding to this as I get more pie...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
Speaking of people not knowing you, I don't think my sister realizes that saying I have my dad's smile makes me want to have a violent reaction Have you told her? Sounds like she's tired of people comparing her to you or acting like your both a single entity and wants to be her own person, I doubt ...

I don't do demos so option 1 seems the best to me. Otherwise I'd do option 4.

Re: Creative Commons Board?
I didn't know that. I'll offer zip, psd and xcf then. I may post the pngs in the CC board anyway, since it'll take a long time to get all the pieces done and it can be used before that. Thanks.Anna wrote:SAI also opens psd files, so it's pretty convenient.

Re: Music in VNs-Does Anyone Find It Too Distracting?
I do that too. I need a lot of focus when I read and while the music can be okay sometimes, everyone in the house wondering what I'm up to isn't.

Re: NVL and lots of text at once?
It should be possible to split the screen between text and screen like that, there's something like that in the demo, but I'm a beginner and have no clue how to go about doing it. If you did, I doubt you'd want more than one character on the screen at once, you'd get overcrowded quickly.

Re: Creative Commons Board?
I'm less worried about dpi and more worried about the size and shape and if the layering thing is a good idea. ^_^

Re: Creative Commons Board?
I'm working on some backgrounds for this, but I'm not sure what would be the most useful. I've been working at 1920x1080 and 600dpi and with lots of layers to mix and match things with. Would 1920x1080 at 72dpi be a good size for sharing? Would saving the layers and transparent pngs and letting peop...
