Re: Colour: Above or Below Shading? (digital)

I'm assuming blankd means art you've drawn inspiration from that's more professional? edit; maybe a better way to put that is like, what's an example of what you want to achieve? Oh, I get it now. I don't actually have many examples (not any that I know where they're originally from anyway.) Mostly...

Re: Ash's Art [Critiques welcome, Requests Closed]

So, I finally finished my first ever actually ok looking sprite?
Type deal.
Something looks a little off, although I can't figure out what.
Any critiques and tips would be welcome.
Edit: yes, I know the hands are screwy. I gave up on them.

Re: Colour: Above or Below Shading? (digital)

Do you have a commercial example of art that exemplifies what you are asking? From the sounds of it if you want this "soft look" it's going to require painting since you have specified you don't want your lines to be that obvious. A possible workaround is to use thinner or softer brush li...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...

Mostly I've been so stressed with school that I've been having breakdowns almost every second day. Most of my free time goes into roleplaying with a friend so that I don't freak out over assignments (dumbest idea ever, I end up not doing them). The problem? There's a lot of chemistry between certai...

Re: Orion [Sci-Fi]: Steam Greenlight Campaign

Oh gosh this looks amazing! I'm lamenting my lack of money and wifi speed to download the demo.
I'll definitely be supporting this when I have the cash, I'm a sucker for sci-fi.

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...

I just spoke with my friend who lives in the city I want to move to, and it got me really down. She applied for a student apartment last year, and she didn't get one until October. I've been trying to feel optimistic about my own application process, but now I have doubts. What do I do if I'm accep...

i don't, sadly. You could probably edit it in photoshop yourself, since a few have plain backgrounds.

Re: Any good character creators?

Rinmaru games has a lot of good character creators. There are also a few up on azalea dolls, I think.
Mostly these are just portraits, although there might be some scene makers.

Re: Colour: Above or Below Shading? (digital)

(FYI CS4 user so I don't have accsess to as many tools) Typically my layer breakdown looks like this: (Topmost) - Lines -highlights -shading (bottommost) - flats Sometimes gradients or other effects are shuffled about, but GENERALLY I find that flat/base colors work best on the bottom layer. Shadow...

Re: Ash's Art [Critique's and Requests Welcome]

I'd like to ask if you'd be interested in drawing a character for me. In all actuality I'm asking lots of users on here for images, as a gift to a friend of mine, who worked with me on a special project for a long time. His birthday is towards the end of the month and since I have no talent for dra...

Re: Colour: Above or Below Shading? (digital)

If I need a bit of a pop of color (specially during a grey scale) I use overlay it doesn't darken it (except sometimes in greyscale) I usually use multiply if its for the color scheme or to create a quick illusion of shadow (even if not placed correctly I just brush a huge spot and blend it) yeah i...

Re: Ash's Art [Critique's and Requests Welcome]

Not bad, not bad. Thanks! I'm not an artist myself, but one quick tip I can offer is to try and make your lines bolder, like around the eyes for example; it makes them more defined. I normally do just that. I'm trying out more painting styles, so that's what this is. I'll take your advice on board,...

@HiddenCreature

I'm not 100% happy with this, but I hope you like it! I needed to get some art out at least, and I was playing around with shading techniques.

Re: Colour: Above or Below Shading? (digital)

One way to play around with shading/coloring in general is to use color correction layers. Since you use CS6, there are several ways you can play around so you can make your colors pop: http://maiscribble.deviantart.com/art/Color-Correction-Methods-500416568 As for your lineart, you can change the ...

Re: Feedback on my sprite, please? :3

With her feet I'd suggest looking at a lot of martial arts stances (does that sound weird? let me explain). Since she has a bow, I'm guessing she's something of a hunter, and maybe a fighter. At the moment, she looks a little pin-uppy (to me, at least. I think it's the way her feet are directed inwa...
