Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@Keul: Thanks for the suggestions! I guess I will have to look into that, although I still do think that the app cache does what we want. You are right, localStorage is limited, in most browsers you can only store 2,5mb per site. But that is enough to store hundreds of savegames. You can participate...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@Keul: If there is demand for specifying a standard XML dialect for visual novels, I would surely be willing to help with it. The possibility of having another application generate a WebStory file was one of the reasons why I chose the XML format in the first place. Regarding your offline ideas, I a...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@planktheory: Ah, thanks, I guess I understand. I didn't really test this functionality all that much, but good to know that it works. But I still plan on writing a meta-layer asset like described above. It would make it easier to apply movement and effects to different assets at once, which in turn...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@planktheory:
I don't really understand what you mean, can you explain? What do you want to accomplish? If you like to have a "layer" asset where you can move multiple ImagePacks, Curtains etc. at once, I could write an extension for that in the next couple of days. Wanted to do that anyway.

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@AxemRed: Good point. If you are really concerned about your user's bandwidth or server traffic, you can probably use the HTML5 app cache though. The app cache is used when online, too, and it's contents will only be re-downloaded when the manifest file changes and the resources mentioned in the man...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@AxemRed: No, your browser does not reload all the images every time, they are cached. If your browser does reload all the images, then you either have disabled your browser cache or your server is badly configured. And at least when the audio does not get streamed, it will also be cached. I'm not q...

Re: Non-Japanese comics

I read The Friendly Winter, that's a really great manwha web comic about a girl with a growth disorder who becomes friends with a guy that has a mental disorder. It's not only about how they deal with their disabilities, but also about the girl's mother who abandoned her when she was really young. F...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@aeri & planktheory: You're welcome! @AxemRed: You are right that there's still something the browser needs to download, of course: images, sounds, the WebStory file, the engine + the libraries. But I wouldn't say that you have more to download than with a desktop app. The thing is: When you downloa...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

Just wanted to let you guys know that there now are support forums for the WebStory Engine:
https://iiyo.org/f/categories/webstory-engine

If you run into any troubles with the engine, that's the place to get help! It's also meant to discuss the development of the engine, of course.

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@fioricca: Thanks! Be sure to tell us when you developed a game using the engine. @triptych: I've seen Awesomium before, but I'm not too fond of it. It is not open source, which at least for me is a total no-go in this context. And then there's the "awesome" license fee of 2900$ for commercial use. ...

Sure, that would be awesome. I'll probably set up a support/dev forum of some kind soon, too.

This is so good. Are you a professional artist? Anyway, I love it. Great colors, expressions and I think the clothes are especially good. Keep up the good work! :)

Re: Non Native English writing

I think there's nothing wrong with writing your works in English even if you are not a native speaker. If you are not good enough in the language to produce something that is of sufficiently high quality, just get a native speaker (one that is actually good at grammar and spelling) to proof-read the...

Re: Buying a Graphics tablet

Well, to be honest, I'd recommend to rather wait and save some money to buy a Wacom tablet later. My experience with tablets from other companies has been horrible so far, unfortunately. A4 should be big enough, I guess. But what's more important is the resolution and pressure sensivity, not the siz...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

So, just wanted to let you guys know that I'm working on the container application for the WebStory Engine. I already tried it with Ubuntu 12.04 and Win 7 64-bit and it seems to work. Needs a lot of fine-tuning now and I need to solve some minor problems with the deployment process. Also, localStora...
