I like to give sprites to minor characters as well if they have names LOL. But for random people whom the MC meets at random times, then I won't bother making ones. Actually I don't really mind having funny conversations during battle! It might be out of place, but aren't the dialogs in your game having jokes here and there LOL? So I guess it wouldn't be that weird to have jokes during battle too since your game isn't all about serious battle game.
