Re: Writers as producers (discussion)

If you have just 2 or 3 people working on a project (maybe an artist, a writer, and a programmer) a producer could be more of a 5th wheel. Chances are one of those other people will be taking on a lot of the producer role anyway. Disagree. Philosophically, if everything is churning well, producer s...

Re: U don't have to know how to write a script to write a sc

Are you trying to say someone shouldn't expect to see the work of someone they are thinking of working with? Because I wouldn't ever do that again. You can gain a lot from looking at someone's work, not just their technical skill, but also their style and personality. I can tell pretty quickly if I...

Re: Driving storylines that don't center on relationships

Hmm... then this might inspire you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyMx1YjekBY I haven't played the game at all so I don't know if full game has this anti-feel but if you know some bit about DBZ, you might get sense that despite scene being mimic of many DB related events, there's something off...li...

Re: Driving storylines that don't center on relationships

Just in case, OP meant something different from what user Destiny meant. The thing that traps most plots in a relationship is because Visual Novels "need" to show the face/sprite/emotions of the characters at the beginning. Drop that and you drop the feel. Cyanide's The Elevator is a good basic exam...

Re: Conversational 'styles' as a game mechanic

And I doubt they'd appreciate being able to choose freely in the beginning, and then all of a sudden they can only be charming, just because they picked charming once. Tons of games have done this. Especially for skill trees which are more gameplay centric and the complaints are few and far between...

U don't have to know how to write a script to write a script

This belongs in Writing section but it deals with artists and in a minor way, other parts of a team so it kind of belongs here. Sorry if this sounds more like an ad than a topic. I couldn't find any other software and honestly I really should stop procrastinating from finishing my worst ever VN but ...

Re: Writers as producers (discussion)

I disagree. I know plenty writers who write from just their point of view; they describe everything a character does, how she/he looks, what the surroundings are like etc., while those could have been left out because of the backgrounds and sprites or made obvious with the use of sound effects or m...

Re: Writers as producers (discussion)

I guess my main concern is that with the writer as a leader, they may look at the storytelling completely from a writers point of view. Someone whose concern is getting everyone to work together can let all the members tell the story from their own point of view. For example, the musician might see...

Re: Writers, Pitch A Script to Me!

Not skilled writer but out of curiosity: What's bad with pitch you've already written? Do they just lack scripts? I'm just imagining some talented writer who could turn those pitches into full blown scripts. Would be too bad if such pitches were considered off-limits. They could easily be tweaked li...

Re: Writers as producers (discussion)

Oops. Didn't know. Yeah, didn't expect someone who knows much about VN development to not see point of producer. IMO KS being a bad model is I think one of the best example of what a producer could contribute. Instead of everyone having a title like how film producers are stereotyped, producers simp...

Re: Writers as producers (discussion)

Job of a producer: A film producer oversees and delivers a film project to the film studio or other financing entity, while preserving the integrity, voice and vision of the film. They will also often take on some financial risk by using their own money, especially during the pre-production period, ...

Re: Conversational 'styles' as a game mechanic

It would only be 'as tricky' as making actual dialogue. E.G. the lazy way to do it: (Begin game - Choose your Conversation Style Personality Test) Once upon a time there lived in a certain village a little country girl, the prettiest creature who was ever seen. Her mother was excessively fond of her...

Re: Conversational 'styles' as a game mechanic

Personality quiz IMO better than 'pick for me'.

Random quiz may be much harder for the game designer but it's more 'immersive' and natural for the player.

Re: Perfect ending even with dead MC?

It's not that that sort of ending is bad, it's that it's really hard. With a happy sappy ending it isn't hard to make people happy, but you can't coast on an ending like this. Still, sounds like you've got experience. This.^ Most (ugh) perfect ending I've seen is where it's left ambiguous. Final Fa...

Re: Hey, Studying ?

(Could be wrong.) I think OP is looking for more specifics. Like deprivation. To be inspired to rush through something that might need flow, you do work only a few times a day. It doesn't work with schedules and it's imperfect for those of us who suck but it's like, Draw only the eyes of your charac...
