Re: Question related to my old work,
Hmm... it's a tough question (I've been pondering this one for a while), but I think when it comes down to it, the important part isn't the actual content or genre or style, but whether you plan to use the entire spectrum of media available to you. This might be a personal reason (since it's somethi...

Re: OST in Visual Novels
I'm a bit obsessed with OSTs, and not just in visual novels. Everyone has something they prioritize, and while I still give proper weight to the story and all, I tend to pay much closer attention to the BGM than others. In all cases, one of the things that really stands out is the use of musical mot...

Re: Convenient method for spellchecking?
Spell check is simply another tool. There's costs and benefits to using it while writing, but I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. Some people prefer getting the most obvious errors out of the way while writing, while others leave it for proofreading. Use whatever makes you the most comfor...

Re: Genre bending in visual novels?
I think that blending genres isn't necessarily a bad thing; just another challenge that the writer has to address. But I also think that there's nothing special to games when it comes to this, because, from what I can tell, other mediums have the same struggles. I think an important insight is to re...

Re: ANYONE THINK OF A GOOD VN TITLE
Having a problem naming people and things, I take it? If you want specific suggestions you'll have to give us some specific details, so for now the best I can give is a general answer. Names can have deeper meaning than as mere identifiers, but whether or not you choose to do so is up to you. You ca...

Re: Naming Characters and help naming things.
Have you ever played The World Ends With You? It's a dual-screen JRPG-type game for the DS, quite unique. The monsters in the game were called Noise, and it was a perfect fit for them. Like Laiska noted, it implied interference and lack of direction or structure, and even hinted at the true nature o...

And that's quite the effective limiter. XDPyTom wrote:The limiter is me, either PMing you to tell you to change it, or deleting your sig if it's particularly egregious or I'm in a bad mood.

Re: Adding a Signature?
Can you put images from your computer?? Yes, using the same process as you would to put them in the message body. First you have to upload the file to an image storage site (sites like Photobucket , TinyPic , or Imgur will do the trick.) After that, take the raw URL for the uploaded photo (it shoul...

Re: What are some Do's or Don'ts in your opinion?
Just so I'm fully understanding. What is the direct/blunt definition of a kinetic visual novel? Kinetic Novels are usually understood to be just like VNs (or you could say VNs are just like KNs) but they don't have choices and they are linear, no "gameplay." So a KN is just like a novel or a short ...

Re: curousity: create a secret event when playing new game p
For once, I think I'll disagree with trooper6 here (:o)... I don't mind forced replays, but ONLY if a few conditions are met. 1) Content needs to change between playthroughs. Even seeing the same sentence repeated once can be tedious, so as you'd imagine, rehashing entire sequences would make the ga...

Re: Interactions between writer and reader
I have an established rapport with some alpha readers who might know know me and my writing style to the point where they can look at the first draft of a scene and say, "It looks like you're trying to achieve X, but it doesn't really come across. But I really did like elements Y and Z. If you can ...

A while ago, I realized that I had played Cave Story only a year after it was released. Over ten years ago, that is.Rinima wrote:I've just realised I was only 12 (20 now) when the last Harry Potter book was published...
I could have sworn I was older than that...

Re: What are some Do's or Don'ts in your opinion?
Don't: Make something that doesn't rely on the medium. (I don't like stories that could just as easily be a book or movie rather than a VN. Some kinetic novels are great, but I'll never make one for this very reason.) I can see you are referring to VNs as a 'medium'. There's an old discussion. See ...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
Yeah, things can get pretty intense. I've definitely done 12 hour shifts before-- when something blows up, often people start threads on controversial issues one right after another, or connecting them if they aren't really related, and it gets mess. Being a mod is long periods of low grade mainten...
