Re: What's the best resolution for a VN?
So... umm, I just want to ask, what do you think is the best resolution for a VN? :) Currently I have mine at 900x700, just a bit bigger than the usual 800x600. The first thing to consider before resolution is aspect ratio. Aspect ratio is the shape of the screen. Once, 4:3 was the most popular (it...

Re: Art Dumpage! Show your art ^^
That sketch looks nice. Today I've been trying to get a nice anime style look that renders quickly without much need for tweaking. I created it using the latest build of Blender. It's definitely more efficient than how I rendered this , which is a composite of like 4 individual renders. (Click the i...

Re: Favorite program?
Sculptris is awesome! I really tried to understand Blender, but I found it very hard. :/ Ah, it is a little intimidating initially. When I first opened it, I played around a bit and then didn't use it again for two months. There's a lot of tutorials out there now for it. BlenderCookie has some good...

Re: How offensive is swearing?
Speed or abruptness could also help convey anger -- have his sprite suddenly appear saying the line, or, if your text is usually written onto the screen one letter at a time, have the line of dialogue appear in full immediately. Honestly, I think worrying about offending people isn't helpful; so lon...

Re: Looking for web designer.
If you're looking for a web designer, this sentence, "Java/Javascript, PHP, CSS, C++ or HTML" should be something more like "HTML and CSS, and maybe Javascript, PHP"; I don't see why a web designer would necessarily need to know Java or C++. Is there a specific reason you listed Java and C++? Also, ...

I enjoy using Blender. Also, I found Sculptris very fun and easy to use, though it doesn't seem like a lot of people here do 3D modeling beyond SketchUp. I use Photoshop quite a bit too, but I don't enjoy the process as much as I do with Blender for some reason.

Re: What's the best resolution to use on a novel?
anyway my point is 4:3 (800x600) is a dead resolution. Really anything "boxy" is a dead resolution. Using it tends to make games look quaint and "old." For desktop computers, yes. However, iPads are 4:3. Regarding animations; I think as long as you put some thought into it there's no reason why a l...

Re: Demo & Missing Art
How many backgrounds are missing? Also, you don't need to have the checker board pattern there -- even if you don't find place holders, you can still use a solid colour as a background. Black is already defined in Ren'Py, but others aren't as I recall. So, "scene black" in your script where there's ...

Re: 'Reader' vs 'Player' vs another word entirely?
Mind, in all this, I'm completely non-judgmental. Many people somehow identify themselves with the medium of video games and consequently the very idea that something they like isn't a game is very threatening to them, which I think is tremendously silly. Something not being a game is fine. I compl...

Re: 'Reader' vs 'Player' vs another word entirely?
Games vs. non-games has been a topic that's cropped up on Gamasutra recently. I think one of the commenters there had it right when they said games exist along a spectrum, rather than within black and white categories. One things all games [which are unanimously accepted as games] share is that they...

Re: Attacks on WordPress sites? [if using WP please read]
I use nonsense pass phrases that amuse me. For sites that I don't visit very often (and hence haven't memorised the pass phrase), I just write them on a scrap of paper at my desk. An example would be something like: Juan day, I'll eat 50phor burritos! (One day, I'll eat fifty-four burritos!) I dunno...

Re: How to write a story when you don't care about other peo
I agree that empathy is needed to write convincing characters, but I don't think sympathy is. I think someone can still be a good, empathetic writer and not care about others. That being said, in my experience empathy tends to bring about sympathy a lot of the time. Empathy comes with experience - d...

I'm interested to know that too. If you created it, what did you use?TrickWithAKnife wrote:I'll presume that you may have used a 3D image as a reference, just because the angles are flawless.
If so, did you create the 3D reference, or was it supplied by the commissioner?
