Might I suggest that the link to the forums on the front page send users to the index of the forum and not the thread where you're discussing the creation of the site? That thread has become a little obscelete I think, and I still use that link to get to the forum so I don't have to memorize the url...

That's true. A lot of people come to forums through something else, think it's neat, sign up, and never visit again. I'd say at least half of all forums out there are like this.
