Re: Are There Plans to Make Ren'Py More User-Friendly?
One worry I have is that some helpful people post code that is...not best practice. I've seen this in the cookbook section where a helpful person posts some helpful code that is not well put together, uses ui code rather than the preferred screen language, is inefficient, poorly indented, etc. Such...

Re: Are There Plans to Make Ren'Py More User-Friendly?
One thing I would kind of appreciate though is if some of the gurus around here would go through the official documentation and add in more examples for each element, because as someone who is more of an artist than a coder, I find the raw syntax documentation to be very hard to decipher, but can u...

Re: Applying Automatic Transitions to the Text and Who Say B
There's ATL which would solve half your problem on transitions with the side image and who box. I modified the two-window variant from the original a bit, but hopefully it's not an issue: screen say(who, what, side_image=None, two_window=True): $ two_window = True # Decide if we want to use the one-...

Re: How to outline displayable text
I had some time to try colours without the hash mark, and it actually works! Learned something new. As for the outlines issue, I looked at the documentation on style tags: http://www.renpy.org/doc/html/text.html#style-text-tags The properties list includes colour and font, but not outlines, which co...

Re: How to outline displayable text
I think it has to do with your outline's colour. Hex codes require the hash mark. Your text colour's also missing it, but maybe it's already defaulted to black? # defined the style before label start: style healthui is text: color '#000000' font 'osaka.ttf' outlines [(20, "#FFFFFF", 1, 1)] You can c...

Adding to Trooper6's explanation: assuming you're using Windows, if you can switch to the Detail view in the file explorer, you can see the Type for .exe files are Applications. Those are the files you can run on PC. The screenshot I attached is for some random game I had on my Windows 8.1 machine b...

Re: Text bleeps callback won't stop when going to other menu
I had the same problem when I tried to add those sounds, and couldn't find a reasonable way to stop them from playing in the menus. The closest I got was stopping the channel when the navigation screen shows. If you returned to the game quick enough, the sounds continue, but at least they stop while...

Re: How do I do a "conversation log" window?
Sorry, I made a typo here. There should be no equal sign in the second method: window: style_group "readback" # Add it directly to the window which your version needs background "path/to/text_history_background.png" You can adjust the scroll amount in the adjustment element: $ adj = NewAdj(changed =...

Re: How do I do a "conversation log" window?
I used a more updated version by apricotorange, which supports scrolling and paging: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?p=210783#p210783 The script on this page seems to be more recent: http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/doc/cookbook/Text_History The one you linked gave me the "spurious ui...

Re: The issue of leaning left: Tips and Tricks?
What helps me is flipping the canvas constantly so that I know immediately if my drawing is off. Some programs have a temporary flip command; Paint Tool Sai has the keyboard shortcut H that does this. It can be tedious especially if your program doesn't have this feature, but to me it's worth the ex...

There's delta's readback file, but it's several years old: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4197 I used a more updated version by apricotorange, which supports scrolling and paging: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?p=210783#p210783 Also, how would I go about adding ...

Re: Working with Foreign Languages
Text formatting is a great way to indicate a different speaker or language, just keep in mind to keep it simple. If you decide to keep the vernacular or primary language as regular font for example, use italics for the foreign. Adding other formats to make it say bold-italic would be too much. I thi...

Re: Persistent Data Pop Up Issue
There's a brief explanation in the documentation , which can explain it better than I can! I've added some indents and notes on different language types in your example, but remember next time to use the tags so the indents are preserved. The more you work with Renpy the easier it is to get the hang...
