Re: Dear Darjeeling [Tea & Coffee][Romantic][Conversational]
b. I'd probably give Latte (and therefore the player) the chance to choose how to form an argument in addition to what she'd say. Actually, these games could be a great help in teaching people about the basics of rhetoric. Interesting idea and has given me some inspiration already! Could you expand...

Re: Voice your Narrator or not?
As trooper6 said, it largely depends on the kind of story being told, and on the quality of the acting.
I don't consider it a must. I'd rather read something written well than have something poorly written read for me.

Re: Dear Darjeeling [Tea & Coffee][Romantic][Conversational]
1) Would you like to be a tester? 2) Did you play The Trouble with Earl Grey? 2 a) If so, what aspects from the first game would you like to see in this one? 2 b) If you could change 1 thing about the first game, what would it be? 3) Do you think $2.50 is a fair price for Dear Darjeeling? Why? If n...

Re: How to make a KN appealing?
Very few works of art are excellent in all elements. I don't apply different standards to writing than I do other elements. I recognize that in all likelihood some element (which might be writing, might be art, might be gameplay, is likely to be average while others are likely to be excellent depen...

Re: How to make a KN appealing?
But that isn't necessarily a problem...it depends on what the game is trying to do. I mean, Pac-Man doesn't have "quality writing"...but that isn't the point of the game. Forgive me. I must have been unclear. Obviously it depends on what the game's trying to do, and obviously I'm not talking about ...

Re: How to make a KN appealing?
^Agreed. I guess what can be said all around is that KNs have to go a step further than traditional VNs. The question that this raises for me is, "Does the presence of gameplay or other elements contribute to a belief that choice-based VNs don't need to deliver quality writing?" Sometimes I fear th...

Re: How to make a KN appealing?
I don't really think that there are any particular "how-tos" concerning writing a KN that don't also apply to writing in general, except for the fact that while a standard novel requires the writer to describe scenery, character appearance, etc., a visual novel may employ art and audio to establish ...

Re: Archetyping without Stereotyping
I think I'm just very much worried that while I'm creating characters which liken to an archetypical model that they will cross slightly into stereotype or that I will be accused of it. Say if I were to a draw a dwarf character in writing and/or art. Some will demand the full beard while others mig...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
You know, you can only push someone so far before they snap. I've had enough of living with my family, I get called derogatory names constantly (aka, b**ch, t*at, stupid etc etc), I'm constantly getting called lazy for not going to help at the farm (FOR GOD SAKE I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A EFFING DEGREE...

Re: Will a dialogue-only Visual Novel work?
Personally, I think that games like The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead (Telltale Games) count as visual novels, and those are both well-written and have no narration. Though note that those games have full animation, which helps (they can tell information to the audience through visuals instead...

Re: Overworking on a project
In my case, it's not really overwork that's the problem---at least not currently---but I am very ambitious, and it's gotten me in over my head sometimes. Even when I'm only working on a volunteer basis, I push myself to do a lot, and I get upset if I feel I'm falling behind. I'm trying to break that...

Re: Archetyping without Stereotyping
First, let me say that I'm sorry I haven't replied in a timely manner. I'm enjoying this discussion and I did want to continue. It just slipped my mind. Tolkien, I think, was indeed a product of his time. I'm not giving him a free pass, but I think he should be credited for establishing the definiti...

Re: Seduce Me [GxB/GxG][Romance, Comedy][Incubi/Demons](Free
Well . . . I guess I took too long to get through the old version and provide feedback. Oops. But hooray for updates! I apologize! (Juggling life's responsibilities is exhausting sometimes, isn't it? I still have a ton of VNs I want to run through and critique.) But I'm downloading the update ...

Oh, cool! I've been wondering whether this was still active. Somehow I missed the first demo release, but I'm glad to see Walkerman's still in development.
