Re: Backing up files - VN creators call to arms!
Re: How to back up, me and TK both have a copy of the game files, with assets updated via a drop box folder/filesend and us moving by hand, and the actual code being done with a private Git repo (via Source Tree and Bitbucket). Doing the code in a repo has the added bonus of versioning as well as ro...

Re: How do I write a strong beginning?
Another thing is try not to worry about starting working on your project with a really strong opening. Start with something, get to the end, then come back and rework the opening. The chances are you won't know what will best introduce your story until you've written the rest, so don't let uncertain...

Re: Potraying Emotions in Sprites
TK and I use im.Composit as well, but I've been getting her to be even more granular with the expressions, so I have separate eyes, brows and mouths to play with that I combine in-engine, plus arm and costume variants (and colour-matrix lighting FX). I rolled a quick function for each pose that lets...

Oh! Thank you very much!
(The thread has been quite quiet so I've been assuming most people didn't play it).
Glad I could help. Good luck with your prologue!

Re: Making a great Prologue?
In regards to prologue length, it kind of depends on the rest of the story. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about word count. Your prologue should have as many words as it needs to say what it needs to say. It could be 10,000 (though that feels long to me for a prologue), but it could equally b...

Re: The Lighthouse [NaNoRenO14(ish)][BxG][Fantasy] DEMO ADDE
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it. :) The keeper does actually have a better placeholder name in the working-file now: If you don't pick something, Sienna names him 'Finnian', which is silly enough to be something she would say but y'know, not as silly as the placeholder we used XD. That sai...

Re: Loading up Renpy VS Typing up a document
I write straight in code, but I use Coda rather than any of the suggested editors and just load up Renpy to check the lint and also to have the game running as I work (as I'll do a lot of checking phrasing/timing/expressions etc as I write). For outlining, I do it in my files as NVL style summary fr...

Re: The Lighthouse [NaNoRenO14(ish)][BxG][Fantasy] DEMO ADDE
Just to prove we're still working on this, a minor update! The game contains 1,335 dialogue blocks, containing 19,506 words and 104,671 characters, for an average of 14.6 words and 78 characters per block. Nearly to 20k! One scene left in chapter 3, then it's just chapter 4 and the endings. Life has...

Re: Swords of Edo [VN,Romance,GxG/B,Battles,Female Protagoni
As someone who actually really likes good female protagonists I don't think it's an 'ew girls' thing... BUT this does seem rather more aimed at guys than at girls (not an uncommon issue with a lot of GxG sadly, but it's there) so you're possibly going to be cutting down on your female audience there...

Re: 5 storytelling tips for beginners
Another point is, if you're writing horror or trillers, playing with expected characterisation can be very effective for the exact reason you don't have people break character in other genres: It feels wrong. When your cute and loveable childhood friend character suddenly gets a killing look in her ...

Re: Light Yagami and 'Believable Characters'... Believable and realistic are not the same thing. What you need in fiction is for characters to act in accordance with the rules you've set out for them. Those don't have to be ones in real life. Light is believable in that everything he does, fits his ...
