Re: Characters in Games
I think it depends. I've gotten to bond with characters in text-only novels. But sometimes expressive avatars can be consolidated to about six major expressions (neutral, happy, sad, angry, in pain, annoyed) with emotional supplements (anger, nervous sweat, tears, dirt) may work. A voice can also do...

Re: Adversity Comp - Visual Novel Writing Contest - Sept 201
Yay! Final release!
As tempting as it is to read others, I've had to refrain. Started one up to see if it would crash. Hopefully will be able to sit down on Sunday and take a closer look.

Re: Out-of-screen positions possible?
Are you trying to move her from off screen into the right position? You may be able to use show becky with moveinright And delete the part about Becky being at the farright. This next tidbit may be the blind leading here, but this is the code I used to dabble into a far right position. $ far_right =...

Re: Adversity Comp - Visual Novel Writing Contest - Sept 201
*puts on serious hat and monocle* I'm thinking a single discussion thread instead of several discussion threads. I think several folks may instinctively hover around their grouping and start justifying why he/she/it did X and Y in response to the critique. It may be safe to assume that we will step ...

Re: Tell me your story ideas [request thread]
I do admit, even if the story doesn't head in the Fregoli delusion, I'm interested to see several questions answered in the story. Side topic: What speech recognition software are you using? And are you using any add-ons if its Dragon NaturallySpeaking (e.g. VoicePower or KnowBrainer) or Windows Spe...

Re: NaNoWriMo '12
Apparently since it's piece of narrative fiction that will be at least 50k long, a Visual Novel is perfectly valid for NaNo. This is what happens when I try to rebel, I get told that it's just fine, I wasn't breaking the rules anyway. :D mark_laverdiere: That sounds like non-fiction, are you the re...

Re: Writer Open for Project/Blowing Your Mind
@Deker, t'was an enjoyable read (the post at this time as I have not delved into any of the links). You write in a vein that I enjoy and thus, posting in said thread to return to such in the future. I think it's an interesting way you have there to answer the questions that appear in many of the rec...

Re: Come in and tell me what's on your mind [request thread]
Start: A pair of monster hunters find a monster that has been feeding off of vicious criminals who have escaped the legal system. Some details to help shape this (if desired): 1. One hunter has mixed feelings about hunting the monster while its doing society a favor. 2. The other hunter believes its...

It may be best for the one that gave permission to provide those items you seek to you. That way you don't have to worry about fiddling with unpacking funness.

Re: NaNoWriMo '12
I think having to write for work / school, where quality is a factor, chips away at the motivation to write for leisure after hours. Especially when there's this invisible deadline of 50,000+ words before the end of November. Tis' why I'm hoping a sprinkle of vacation day here and there will offset ...

Re: Add Choices to the Preferences tab
I've been thinking about this as an option too. Though I think I approached it more like you with a choice at the beginning determining the level of language censorship, with curse word variables in the dialogue. Then I skimmed over what would count as a first release script and did not see any "hea...

Re: NaNoWriMo '12
Taking a few vacation days in November to crank out some major writage. My concern is that there's the temptation to write about something I've already started writing as a brainstorm or two scene sample to get me grooving... Then with more Ren'Py background, the temptation to write everything forma...

Re: Your Way of Resizing and Exporting Sprites Efficiently?
This has been my method too on ye Photoshop.
Though after looking at composites from the Ren'Py side, wondering if some of this can be offset.
I.e. if you make a change on the costume, you wouldn't have to resize, and export all the expressions again. You would just export the updated costume.

Edit: Strike that. My eyes play tricks on me again. Edit2: Can you start a new project and paste that line of code in the script.rpy file just above label start: I'm not at a computer to test from what you have alone, but wanted to see if there's something else that could be conflicting with it (I'm...

Re: Game resolution
I think I'm missing something big, but can jpeg be transparent? I don't think I've tried in six years due to failure to implement, but if such is the case... I think for the developer, it may be based on the resolution they are comfortable with. I have been using the 800x600, because 1024x768 starts...
