Re: Horror VN gameplay ideas
but I think the story requires the player to just sit and listen? Of course I don't want that What's wrong with sitting and listening? The best horror books and movies require little more than keeping your eyes open (some movies are even terrifying with eyes closed!) Visual novels really aren't ver...

Re: Share your sales/downloads stats!
General stats for Cuttlebone, released roughly 2 and a half months ago. http://puu.sh/jXluW.png http://puu.sh/jXnuO.png As for referrals, I've noticed the biggest contributors have been games.renpy.org (which took me by surprise), "Related Games" suggestions in other itch.io visual novel pages, and ...

Re: Which style do you prefer?
I think it should come down to two major questions:
- Which style do you find fits the version of the story you want to tell the best?
- Which style does the artist enjoy doing more?
I don't advise catering to what others want over what you want.

Re: What writing do you look 4 in a VN
What's the point of using a first-person medium if you're not gonna have protagonist narration? Feels like a counter-productive dismissal of tools. Unless you have very engaging dialogue, a plot that entails lots of characters talking, and a limited geographic span for the scenes, then I would think...

Re: Writing a Branching Plot - How to approach?
There was this great tool on the forum somewhere on plotting branching paths... But gosh I just can't find it. If someone knows what I mean please link it for me. Renpedit? In regards to the topic, the standard way I've seen writers deal with the problem is having a common route that you start with...

Re: Deciding what game to work on next
I'd say it depends on how well your workflow is at the end of this first project. Do you feel like you managed to optimize everything about the development process? Have you solved all the problems involved in the various roles in clean and efficient ways? Are team members stable or are you going to...

Re: On teams
trooper6, that is curious. Though it differs a bit in that neither member of Cyanide Tea seem to do both writing and illustration (correct me if I'm wrong) in their projects, and there's always separate people giving a voice and a face to the work, so team names there definitely make a lot of sense...

Re: On teams
Is there actually an issue? Making up a name for your team isn't really a big deal even if you don't do it. I did it for my team because it's fun and convenient. Even if I was working alone, I'd have made up a name for my "one-man company" because in my opinion, seeing a splash screen like "Orange ...

Hey! Ever since I released my first VN (Cuttlebone) a couple months ago and started work on the second, I've been grinding my gears over this problem, and I figure you guys could probably give me some useful input on what I should do. With Cuttlebone, even though I had the help of a friend (Vick) wi...

Re: Hi! Need help regarding the writing process!
There is no reason you should not be able to write your script directly. In fact, it probably saves you time if you do that, and is easier to test how it looks in-game. Pick simple variable names for characters and start writing away. Then, once the script is done and you're ready to do your first r...

Re: How interesting is emofuri for you?
But when its characters sit down and stand up, that has to be told through text. When two characters are lying on the sofa, they're presented as standing in front of you, and the text has to tell you that they're lying down. I don't think there's something necessarily bad about Emofuri, but there a...

Re: Characters dating one another
I find the topic post a little incoherent and am having trouble understanding the situation at hand. Is it that there's 2 secondary characters (neither of which have their own routes), and you want them to date each other? Or do you mean when you branch into heroine B, some secondary character guy d...

Re: Questions regarding your first VN ever
1. How much time it took for some of you to create your first VN? 2. Was it a solo project, and did you do everything yourself? 3. How long was it in terms of playtime? (EDIT: And what was the word count?) 1) Two and a half months from when I started doing raw work on it. Prior to that I spent like...

Re: Cerulean [SuNoFes] [Friendship] [Complete!]
Hey! Just did a playthrough now (will go back tomorrow and see the other routes :p). I was incredibly impressed by the UI, I found the writing to be very solid and adorable (I felt some feels ;u;), backgrounds are stylish, and sprites are cute. Nice work you guys. Just in case you're not aware of th...

Re: A Day in the Life of a Slice of Bread (SuNoFes 2015)
Yo Sasquatchii. Finally got around to playing this. First off, the questionaire: 1. Did the game make you laugh or smile? The storytelling not so much, but the visuals did. The bread face is adorable. 2. What did you think about the voice acting? Was fine, but it suffers a little from an emphasis pr...
