I believe minigames are a good change of pace... if there aren't too many, and if they are connected to the main story. And to answear, what I look for in visual novel, the answer is simple - something, to catch my heart. It really needs to have quite a few suprising events and such... The story sho...

What motivates me the most is moment, when I check up the changes in my game and see there are no mistakes or when I see how the character's lines really show what I intended to show... little successes it's what gives me strenght. Or, when my partner comes with a lot of great ideas...
