Re: AnimeFest 2014 - Dallas, Tx

I will probably spend a good bit of time at the Dallas Society of Play booth. It'll probably be in the arcade room , but it may be found in one of the other gaming-related areas. I may actually be manning this booth at times. Badge name = Tyrantauranox I'll try to wear my hair spiked up with a black...

Re: Making some money with a commercial VN - is it possible?

If you're going to have a branching story, budget a lot more time depending on its complexity. You'll need a lot more testing, too.

I'm game for lunch, but that might be tough for those working tables.

Here's the map, so we can pick out possible meeting spots:

Platforms are huge for me. A Ren'Py for Unity would destroy all.

Re: I'm looking for a mentor.

As a refresher, I recommend installing the latest version of Ren'Py and playing through the included demo. After that, I'd create a copy of the demo project, open the demo script, and then rewrite it. When that all works, I'd change out the character sprites for some free/cc stuff for practice, then...

Re: Unemployed... Should you get a job or Sell Visual Novel?

I'd consider working part-time for a few hours a day, then devoting the rest of your time to your VN (saving a bit for R&R).

I don't mind, as long as character faces aren't covered up

Re: A new artist on the scene

Your stuff makes me want to abandon all VN stuff and start a Megaman-like game project! To tempt the VN makers, I'd consider setting up a character style sheet, showing the same person in several different poses and emotional states: http://hdwallpaper.ws/images/2012/09/-Fatestay-Night-Tohsaka-Rin-C...

Re: Deciding which to give a sprite?

I know that even "big budget" VN's skip illustrations and voices for very minor characters, but it's always jarring for me when they do that. It's not a deal-breaker for me, but it really makes their work look like Amateur-Hour at those points.

Re: How did you name your indie game studio/team?

I generally don't trust a game studio unless the name is at least a little weird. Double Fine, Vanillaware, Sucker Punch, etc.

@KittyKatStar: Some professional studios only have 4-6 devs, so you're cool.

Re: Looking for constructive criticism on a short scene

I'd consider clipping the comparison to humidity. It sounds weird to me, too- and I live in a place where I can relate to that. "The question hangs in the air" might be enough on its own. Something like: "The question hangs in the air for several moments" might work, too. The passage looks good, ove...

Re: Naming a project?

I avoid naming new projects, using just a codename until it's fairly close to completion. Games/stories change so much over their development, so making a name early on is usually a waste of time for me.

Re: Making games in multiple languages

From a business perspective, you must ask if the investment will be worthwhile. Before investing in localization for a particular language, I need data on people who buy the kind of game I'm making, that know said language, but not the main language the game will release with. With what I know right...
