Re: Do game debuggers exist?

I'd rather have the people that wrote the game fix the bugs (with the help of QA testers), but that might not be a good option if those people are no longer available.

PyTom knows what's up (same with most everyone that's posted in this thread). I recommend that you try making a very short, but high-quality VN. When you complete it, you'll have a great metric for determining how much work/money it'll take to make a full game. It'll also help attract others to your...

My tower, main laptop, and spare tower are all 1080p (1920 x 1080). I also have a tiny laptop that runs at 1366 x 768, but I never game with that

Re: Fanmade game copyright?

You have to get permission in writing if you want to avoid violations. I'd say it's pretty unlikely they'll go for it, considering that they have official games out for the IP. The existing fan games run the risk of facing takedown orders and/or legal action, but might get away with it for a long ti...

I also tend to marathon stuff. I don't let it cut too deeply into sleep time, though.

Re: Going from writing VNs to RPGs

I've worked on one iOS RPG, and it leaned heavily on VN-style dialogue sequences. It was pretty linear, in that it didn't have any branching choices, but there was a bit of free-roaming and side-quests in the world. Since some conversations could occur at many different possible times, keeping dialo...

Re: Ways to keep people motivated through the long haul

I'm glad to hear some elaboration on communications problems & solutions! I definitely agree that poor communication can wreck a project in many ways. Another question that's often on my mind is: "Are we having fun, yet?" It's very easy for project pressures to suck the fun out of everything. Many c...

Re: Ways to keep people motivated through the long haul

The punishment for moving forward with an unhappy party can be pretty severe, too. An unhappy employer might never work with a freelancer again, possibly terminating the contract early. An unhappy freelancer might deliver shoddy results that barely meet the definitions in the contract.

Re: Ways to keep people motivated through the long haul

It sounds like compensation is a big one, and the biggest issue I see with that is owners that try to pay as little as possible to get someone on board. On paper, this looks like a great gain up front, but it seems like workers that are unhappy with their compensation tend to quit as soon as they fi...

Ways to keep people motivated through the long haul

How do you keep people motivated (including yourself) after the first few weeks or a project? How do you keep the fires burning as the project goes on for months? Most of these discussions seem to be focused on short-term motivation, and I've been wanting to hear some strategies for the long haul. I...

Re: Character customization in CGs...

I'd try to work out a more technnical solution, rather than having different sprite for every possible color. You could instead have a single set of black & white sprites, "tinting" them different colors in code. Pseudocode example: HairSpriteColor = Color(255, 255, 255, 255); SkinSpriteColor = Colo...
