Re: Creating a "3D look" in 2D
Haha, yeah, I was thinking low poly count is the way to go. Even though the story is set in present day, I think low poly could still work. WoW uses low poly (although, with amazing textures) and other games use it too... some I've found are Biome, Before and Polycraft. I guess somehow I have to fin...

Creating a "3D look" in 2D
Hello! I am having a little difficulty with my VN's artwork at the moment... Basically, it's about an online video game and I wanted to have 3D model sprites for when you're in the game part of the story. It's about 50/50 in-game/ in real life, and the IRL half is drawn in 2D... like this: http://36...

Re: 3D Background Process using Blender, SAI and Photoshop
Hi Sendo, I've just stumbled upon this thread and I have to say it looks amazing! Do you find it better to work this way with 3D? How long did the scene take for you to make?

Re: Ideal Resolution
I'm making my VN at 2560 x 1440... I use a lot of Macs! Though this is the resolution of my 6 year old iMac, which to me is dated compared with the retina displays they are selling now.
IMO Bigger the better in this situation. You can always downscale later, but cannot upscale.

Re: Where to Learn Digital Art for Complete Beginners?
I stumbled upon Ctrl Paint a few weeks ago, and this looks fantastic for beginners. Get a trial of Photoshop, a wacom tablet, then follow these simple videos

Re: Is background music with vocals too distracting for read
I don't think I could read if there are lyrics going on. Another language might work, but if the reader also understands the other language, that will still be confusing!

Re: Stat notifications in visual novels
Personally I prefer no stats, as I find they break the ambience some what. However, some kind of indication is usually good... e.g. in a dating game, where you say the wrong thing to a character you like, they make a sad/ angry face - so you know where you went wrong. I'm having the same issue with ...

Re: Remove text speed from preferences window
I've just removed it for now as I'm not sure what figures I would put in. I'll see how it works but maybe this will do

Remove text speed from preferences window
Hi guys, I was wondering how I'd go about removing the text speed slider from the preferences window? If it's not possible to remove, is there a way that the speed can only be adjusted slightly? Basically I have animations and sound effects that work with the text, and they look great at 50 cps, but...

Re: Critique background art
Hope you don't mind but I thought I would give the first image a try. Your image I think is 90% of the way there but you need to push your light and darker values. Tempus is right, for instance you have really bright light rays coming from the window and yet your room is already quite light, if you...

Re: Critique background art
Thankyou all so much for the time and effort in your feedback! This is really great stuff :) I tried to vary the line widths in the foreground/ background but it came out looking very samey. Changing the majority of them to different colours will really help too. Light rays are too strong. Also, ask...

Critique background art
Hi guys! I've posted a couple of pictures below that I'm working on for my visual novel game. I don't usually ask for critique, but I feel like I'm missing something here, like flair, life or cool aesthetics. I'm really happy with the character art so far, but the backgrounds seem kinda behind... I ...

Re: Naming your game!
Here are some ideas I can think of from other works: Character/Hero Title: The work is named after the hero (the focal character) or the protagonist (the eye of the story) Examples: Sherlock Holmes, Jane Eyre, Shrek, Kim Possible. Antagonist Title: Sometimes the antagonist is so memorable, you can ...

Re: Naming your game!
These are all really useful tips, thanks! I will ask some friends who've played it and see what they have to say. I did ask 1 person already but they didn't help much haha! Hopefully something will come up

Naming your game!
Arghh, I'm really struggling with this! I'm trying to come up with a name for my game. I've written down loads of related words to try and come up with something, but I don't like anything I've come up with. I want it to be appealing but also unique and true to the game. Has anyone else struggled wi...
