Re: Word overuse
Hmm, a sample passage would be difficult because I generally find a way to solve it and I don't know if I have something on hand to demonstrate with. I suppose as an example, describing somebody running. There's a lot of words to describe the different ways someone can run and a lot of those are fo...

Re: Word overuse
A rule of thumb I follow is that repeating words shouldn't be so close together unless there's no other good word. By that, I mean actual spacing when you look at it as a page instead of an electronic manuscript. If you have page view on your word processor, turning it on would be good. You mentione...

Re: Re-writes
I only let myself do rewrites and/or heavy edits of the whole manuscript around three times then I send it on its way. I noticed that there seems to be a compulsive need to edit and change things around every time I read a draft and I realized that I'll never finish if I let myself spiral into a cyc...

Re: Research tips about Japan.
Now that I think about it, what do you mean by "society as a whole"? Do you mean social institutions? Government institutions? or his immediate circle of family and friends? I think your character would have very different experiences depending on who he's interacting with. I guess I'm more concern...

Re: Research tips about Japan.
1. I think it's pretty universal and relateable to most people living today. The uncertainty, anxiety, and frustration probably more so for Japan. Most young people today have parents that grew up into the old systems of education and guaranteed employment and they have little idea how to adapt to t...

Re: Research tips about Japan.
I go to Japan from time to time and have friends and colleagues there. I can also speak and read Japanese. I can probably answer a few questions and point you to some more information.
I've only been to the greater Tokyo area and Yokohama though. I haven't even seen Tochigi or Gunma.

Re: Four ways to write a great story
I work like a combination of both SOTP and edit as you go. I don't really adhere to the strict definition. Sometimes a paragraph or an entire scene can go by and when I look at it it fits nicely with everything and I leave it mostly alone. Then there are times where I keep coming back to a certain p...

Re: Y;N [Horror, Mystery, inkl Point&Click] (Beta available)
Registered an account so I can tell you that I finished your game. It took me all night and into the early morning hours because I'm a moron who can't do math puzzles. Two more hours, half a dozen save files, and half a pack of cigarettes later, I realized that the location of the green letters and ...
