Re: Font
If you want to use the default font then you can just make it a comment, because I'm pretty sure that otherwise Ren'py will search for the font in the files. So you can have it as: ## The file containing the default font. # style.default.font = "DejaVuSans.ttf" ## The default size of text. If you wa...

Re: Typical Otomes?
Well, the main theme of otomes are always different... most authors are, in fact, creative when it comes to their games and there's something unique about all of them. Personally, the most common thing I see with otomes is a protagonist who is a sweet, good-girl type of thing (not complaining, just ...

Re: How do you organize your assets?
Hmm, depends on what you mean. I like Realtimeboard for organizing character profiles and branching choices.

Re: Ratings in visual novels
Yeah, I assumed that most of it was legal stuff. I think that 'Mature' for video games is 17+ though. In the end, I think that people mature at vastly different times. I think most people are 'mature adults' after completing university or after being a job for a while. Basically though, although I a...

Re: Why do we write?
I loved playing with Barbie dolls and giving them stories OMG ME TOO ME TOO!!! Though I also made up stories with Polly Pockets and Groovy Girls and MyScene dolls and Bratz, etc....I remember I never gave each MyScene doll the exact same name as the one they were supposed to have. Nolee t...

Re: Why do we write?
Oh, man. I dunno if it's the writing itself, for me, or the creating stories. I loved playing with Barbie dolls and giving them stories. (groovy girls and polly pockets sucked in comparison; polly pockets were too small and I wasn't sure if Groovy Girls were flat adults or old faced makeuped 10 year...

Re: Writing - Are clichés sometimes inevitable?
Pfft, but there isn't a plot as nothing actually occurs.
But I think the point is that there is a difference between overused tropes and needed tropes. Everyone likes different genres, after all, and genres are defined by tropes

I completely agree with you! You've just written a very nice way of formulating the thoughts I wasn't quite able to express.

Re: Ratings in visual novels
TBH, the North American system is pretty prudish/protective in terms of judging its movies/games or language on TV. Anything appropriate for an 18 year old is appropriate for a 15 year old. The end of grade nine is a pretty big eye-opener for a lot of people, so I would probably judge games as being...

Re: How many people play with sound?
I always play the sound! And there's nothing weirder than playing a visual novel which has exactly zero music or sound effects when I'm on the title screen, as I'm constantly checking to see whether the sound even works. In good VN, the music always has a purpose, and NOT having music has a bigger p...

Re: Obscure Research Resources
I've encountered this on numerous research projects (teachers and their research projects tho) and I've encountered the same thing while trying to be accurate regarding 15th century and 16th century English clothing and customs. Honestly? It may seem like the Internet is chock-full of resources, but...

"10 Types of Hypercorrection" Article
I found an interesting article on 10 Types of Hypercorrection by Mark Nichol. It really reflects a lot on topics similar to those I've seen debated on this forum. Technically correct writing vs naturally sounding writing. Of course, as writers, we shouldn't perpetuate incorrect writing (even if it s...

I can highly recommend the Fables comics, too. Great read!
Yeah, it's hard to judge a game before playing it.

Re: Does anyone have an opinion on Oxford (serial) commas?
Does anyone not have an opinion on the Oxford comma? XD I always use it. In elementary school the teachers often omitted it, which always seemed peculiar to me. Our brains are good at recognizing concepts and images that make the most sense (in context), so it's safer to include it than to not inclu...
