Re: So, you want a Critique? [Rant]
Everything alright over there, Okie? Did somebody go and commit unspeakable acts upon your respective Cheerios? I can't help but be curious as to what sparked this. Personally, if I had to choose between the two, I'd much rather deal with someone who bites back at criticism than someone who just ign...

Re: How to Make Your Characters Relevant to Your Story?
When you mentioned that the protagonist was the one who wanted to stop the apocalypse and the supernatural being was indifferent, I thought you were going to ask how to have the indifferent being overcome their indifference in order to actually save the universe. As it stands, it sounds like you hav...

Looks like you got that harsh critique you asked for. The internet will always find out.

Re: Line Between "Informative" and "Preaching"
I am going to put the tl;dr right at the top and say that I completely second Greeny's advice: present the question if you must, but do not provide the answer. That said, there are quite a few things you've said which jump out at me in a very bad way. writing about an issue you care about, and feel ...

Re: How to write an Interesting Slice of Life Story
Slice-Of-Life does not necessarily mean "nothing happens." Your average western TV sit-com could be described as a slice-of-life show as long as nothing especially outrageous happens in it. Hell, if you ask the typical western TV viewer to think of a show whereby nothing in particular happens, the a...

Never sacrifice a good story to the whims of your demographic.

Re: Judging where to end a game
Pacing is brutal. So far I'm squeaking by on the same method of interrogation that I've been relying on since the beginning. If I feel like a segment or transition is too long or short, I have to ask myself why I feel that way before I can start coming up with possibilities to explore. The more answ...

People who habitually overspeak and assault others while genuinely not having any problem with being overspoken or assaulted themselves exist solely in Unprovable Anecdote Land.

Re: What will you do if you were in my shoes?
When dealing with interpersonal relationships, I find it to be enormously clarifying to simply flip the script and ask yourself what you would do if the situation were inverted. Let's try applying this principle using your example of friends who, in your view, get angry or sarcastic when you state a...

Re: Too much content?
Character development is a fine purpose in and of itself, particularly in a light-hearted work like a comedy or slice-of-life. You can certainly throw your characters into situations which have nothing to do with the greater plot just to show the audience how those characters react to any given situ...

Re: Too much content?
Four activities, and four characters in each activity, each with their own scene within each activity. So, sixteen different possible scenes, all sharing roughly the same timespace in a single day of your story. My first thought is that these scenes must be very brief and not necessarily critical to...

Re: NSFW Content and Kickstarter
It isn't censorship...because censorship is when the government shuts you down. Censorship is not exclusively a government initiative. Anybody can do it in any environment where they have the power to enforce their will. Not that a private business doesn't have the right to enforce any rules in its...

Re: Creating Unique Characters
I am of the opinion that execution is more important than premise. To avoid repeating myself excessively, I'll go ahead and apply the principle to your specific issue. You may think that something like an arrogant prince is an uninteresting premise because it is such a well-known stereotype, but wha...

Re: Questions on Overall Presentation
I would say that the most important thing for the GUI to be is unobtrusive. It's good for your windows and dialogue boxes to match the theme of your story, but they cannot be allowed to make any attempts at stealing the show. Keep 'em nice and quiet so that they don't interrupt my ability to immerse...
