Re: When it comes to trying to make the MC neutral.
If the MC is a blank sheet, if the goal is that the player project themself on it : customisation of the avatar. It's fun to create a character after all ! In that case, I think the player should be able to choose the name of the character too. However, if the character is a real character, with a n...

Re: Tricks/effects to make the game more alive/interactive
What about 'effects' that do not involve animation. Like timed choices. Or just acknowledge that the player is taking time to make a decision, that is classical for videogames. For example, if you think longer than 'necessary', the character interrupts you with something like: "Why don't you say so...

Re: Tricks/effects to make the game more alive/interactive
It is a very good point. If you see something too often it is distracting and even annoying. I feel the same. I wonder, how often is not too often? What do you think? Well, in my opinion, controlling the text speed should only be used for a special effect. Like a pause before a revelation, for exem...

Re: What's more fun: few characters, or many characters?
So I'm certain that the answer is sort of dependent on a multitude of factors, but I wanted to sort of poll people familiar in an area where I am still learning: are visual novels with very few characters still 'fun' ? Or rather, are games with only 1-2 characters prevalent enough that they aren't ...

Re: Tricks/effects to make the game more alive/interactive
I think you already listed most of my favorites effects ! Here's one that I have not seen in your list: sliding panels effect: (between 16:00 and 16:05) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCoi7lq1Lds&list=PL5ugkpl5OkByykhR1UXF4GqK4xZBrDto4&index=2&ab_channel=Kimi%26Ebba I think it's pretty easy to do a...

Re: Visual novels and "Interactivity"
"So here's the question, do you think interactivity as an important part of visual novel ? Why ?" Interactivity is the reason I'm playing visual novels. Unless the story and/or the graphic are really impressives, I'm not interested in kinetics novels. "Do you think that there's many people that wan...

Re: Do you think there is a market for non-anime visual novels?
Like Mutive said, there's a market for everything. I really think that every graphic style, as long as it's well made, can find its player base. The most important is that the graphics are matching with the story's tone . ( Unless the gap is deliberate, for an humoristic/parodic VN.) It's important ...

Re: How much does a custom Renpy game template cost?
How much will it cost: it depend of the person you hire. Each designer have its own rates and conditions. Where do you find them; you can either post in "We are offering paid work" : https://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewforum.php?f=61 You can also look for an UI designer here: https://lemmasoft.ren...

Re: A question on something that deals with Recruitment & Services Offered
I'm not an admin, so, I might be mistaken, but I think it would be better to do different posts, each in theirs sections. After all, if I'm looking for a translator, I'm not going to look into "others" or into "programmer". I'll only look at the section I need to recruit someone from.

Re: [Question] How do I go about selecting a background artist?
Well... If you have a sprite artist but the sprites aren't done yet, I see three way to proceed: -If the sprites are going to be in the usual style of the sprite artist, the price artist's portfolio should be enough reference. -You can also contact the background artist and ask if they will be avail...

Re: [Question] How do I go about selecting a background artist?
I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking where to look for a background artist, or what kind of criteria you should take into account when recruiting?

Re: Questions about artist quotes and pay structure
It's uncommon in little indie productions, and more common for bigger projects. 1) -> Is it a real salary? With taxes and legal agreement? If yes, I would advice you to really look at what you'll really have to pay, especially if the artist live in another country than you. Pay attention to what you...

Re: How to work with people in different timezones and getting people to work?
If deadlines do need to be set(lenience in mind of course, thanks for that bit as well), what should I do if the person outright refuses to have any deadlines and they won't negotiate? (And on that note, how should one negotiate that kind of thing?) Well, I guess it depends how desperate you are to...

Good and free image hosting website?
Hello; does someone know a good and free image hosting website?
In order to put pictures in my posts, I need to upload it on a hosting website, but since Noelshack closed, I don't know which one to use. Any suggestions?
