Square Enix changed "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" to "Final Fantasy XV" after five years of development, so I think you're okay on your end.

You can always try imagemaps with their ground variants. Or maybe I'm personally building up too much of a habit using imagemaps.

In short, this is one of those features whose value depends on opinion and there's no right answer, so I am inclined to say giving the player less control is not a good idea. Thanks, philat, that worked.
I'll use that for now until I can figure out another solution.
Testing it myself, I think it's fine considering the duration isn't so bad (I cut it down to two seconds instead of three so the sound/music fade transitions well).

I'm not sure if other VNs do this, but what do you guys feel about the player character (protagonist) being on screen as often as the characters he/she interacts with? For example, I know the vast majority of VNs have you looking at other characters through the eyes of the protagonist and characters...

Right, I've tried that and clicking still results in the blank dialogue box if used with renpy.pause.
And without renpy.pause the user just skips ahead anyway as if the wait tag didn't exist. That messes with the sound and music resuming timing, too.

Situation: Player triggers an event. Music temporarily stops. A sound plays while dialogue shows.
