Why? 3d CG is a viable option too so I don't see why he shouldn't try it out and see if it works with the visual style of the VNand stay away from 3D CG
Although it is difficult to learn 3d if he knows someone that knows I don't see why it wouldn't work out

Maybe the .azip can be opened in alice?
Try opening them in alice or see if there is an importer as i think this is how alice sees packs

Although I guess on the up side, it's probably more feasible to get almost-there-but-still-not-quite-right on paper than in a modeller.
