Re: Drawing anime with a mouse
I use mouse to draw. See the first and last link in my signiature to see how 'well' that works, though I'm far from an experienced and talented artist. Patience and knowing what you can and cannot do are important, certain styles like paintly and with brush aren't that easy and you'll have to work w...

Well okay then...

Re: The Asoralite Crystal [NaNo 2018] [Fantasy]
I remember playing this game a while ago. It was cute indeed, with a nice bit of world building. I didn't quite experiment a lot with what the different emotions did but I don't think that mattered all that much, but the dolls with different personalities were a nice touch here and there.

Re: Discouraging Lack of Art Skills
Echoing what everyone else has already said, practice and time. If you can draw on paper and have something to scan the drawing in with, you could always draw and trace it over. For a novice, not even the art purists should be complaining about that one. I myself started out with some awful art of m...

Re: How to not favor a certain character in writing?
Just make sure that all the LI's have something of their own, that you at least like them as you write them, and that their characters are roughly as complex as your preferred character. F.e. if your childhood friend has three adorable traits and one interesting hobby, try to give the others the sam...

Re: What do you think about a story without a hero or a villain
Everything can work if it's done well. Words to live by, including here. Can you make a story without good vs evil? Of course. Can you make a story with a hero vs a big bad guy? Of course. The difference lies in that the latter is usually a tad bit easier to make good as a formula. However, the bett...

Re: Who wants to be on a Let's Play?
Well, I may as well put it on the list. There's no need for any rush because this is from NaNo17 and the hype around it is long gone, but that doesn't mean that I don't want S&Y to get some more love. I do believe it lends itself well for a letsplay because it's length-appropriate and with the t...

Re: Contrasting the Japanese and Western VN Fandoms
A VN can be seen as a package of tropes: childhood-friend heroine, tsundere heroine, dumb male protagonist that’s inexplicably beloved by all (these 3 criteria should narrow us down to approximately 90% of all VNs ever made /s). Truer words have never been spoken. I'd like to say that this was a re...

Re: How and how often do you back up projects
I SHOULD back up my work every time after I worked on something. It would be real convenient if I'd do that... What I do is backing up my project whenever I think of it and realise I haven't done it in a while. This thread will be my reminder to do it right now, and then there might be a while until...

Re: Game with only CG art and no character sprites?
What I meant is, having so many options equals having to program every time a character lifts a freaking eyebrow. It's not the same as having just a few separated expressions, If I wanted to have someone angry I literally had to look for the eyes, mouth and eyebrows to create an angry expression. W...

Re: Game with only CG art and no character sprites?
Looking at your video, I saw A LOT of CGs. As in, those 200 Fuseblower mentioned might need an additional zero added. I'm aware that this is a fight scene and thus much more dynamic than the rest of the script, but still that's a lot of CGs suggested by this scene. If you don't lessen the amount and...

Re: Game with only CG art and no character sprites?
If you can keep this level of art up for the entire story, then it could work as your art style. Especially considering this is your first project. I'm not sure if such backgrounds will still work with the victorian mansion that will be a lot more bright and detailed, nor can I tell yet if this styl...

Re: Am I being too ambitious for a newbie?
For what comes to sprites, I plan to commission illustrations for only the five main girls - so secondary characters are clearly out of the picture. Although, there is always the worry of sprites with, not only various expressions, but different outfits. If the girls are going to be at school, hang...

Re: Game with only CG art and no character sprites?
If the VN is all CGs but too repetitive and stagnant in the scene, for example showing a CG suggesting a quick motion like jumping but writing a whole 10k words of scene around it or using the CG a dozen times over, it can be bad. With sprites at least that flatness doesn't highlight the lack of dyn...
