Re: Nerupuff's Art Improvement Thread (critique appreciated)

Hi, if you want to practice then make lots of "5 minute sketches". Of course, such sketches will be simple line drawings and not fully colored ones. Concentrate on postures and don't use a mannekin for that but real life references. One thing I used to do was pop in some 50s musical movie, pause it ...

Re: Kinetic Novels - Long, or Short?

I'm perfectly fine with long kinetic visual novels. Higurashi was quite long (especially the first installment) and I found it to be quite gripping. I didn't miss the branching at all. I even feel that choices might break the immersion in thriller/horror stories like Higurashi.

1 - Dutch (because I'm Dutch) 2 - English (the one thing I got out of highschool that is actually useful) 3 - German (die Deutsche Sprache ist ganz leicht für Niederländer.) 4 - Frisian (but I won't bother to speak it, it sounds awful from my mouth) In the Netherlands about everyone (at least of my ...

Re: How to Write Good Choices: A Guide

That's a nice guide about choices. There's one category of choice I didn't see though and which has given me a bit of thought lately : choices that add or remove choices in subsequent "choice nodes"/forks. A simple example would be something that has to do with an inventory. If the player has chosen...

Re: What music to listen to while drawing?

I don't listen to anything while drawing anything that takes some sort of mental effort (these are the pencil sketches). It's like Richard Williams said : "Unplug!". But for the stuff that doesn't take any effort it's a different story. Currently, for tracing my drawings and coloring (which takes up...

Re: Tenkeiteki Tokyo [parody]

Hm, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I'm still working on Tenkeiteki Tokyo although the last two months were a bit slow, there was a lot of Snooker on the television  Still doing the animation for the intro. The short 2 second ones where the characters do a little dance while their...

Re: Do you like military?

I'd love to play a visual novel from the viewpoint of a WW2 commander. Regular strategy games don't really have a story, it's just moving units around like in a chess game, whereas books with the memoirs of commanders offer great stories (like Erwin Rommel's "The Rommel Papers" or Heinz Guderian's "...

Finishing a game.... Ha! I used to think like that when I was a young whippersnapper.

Now I just settle for finishing the intro

Re: When a character design has no face, is animation needed?

After taking your suggestion Fuse and simplifying this design way down, the end result still took 3 hours and it's still rather jerky at 7 frames. Yes, that's a design that's much easier to animate (by the way : it's 6 frames :) ) The "jerkiness" comes mostly from not using "easing in/easing...

Re: When a character design has no face, is animation needed?

Hi, I see twelve characters that are very difficult to animate (lots of complicated details). Something as simple as the clock face will become a chore to animate if you have to draw those numbers a hundred times or more from all kinds of angles. Or take those stars on the pants. Of course, you woul...

Re: Neural Network and VNs

I don't think humans will be obsolete any time soon. Humans don't serve a purpose, things serve a purpose to humans :D People are still willing to pay millions for paintings. The photo camera didn't change that. The difference is that something that is made by a human took a human person a certain a...

Re: Visual Novel looking for some art/visual critique!

I guess you mean "Panther" ("Panzer" is just the German word for "tank"). Of course, it wasn't officially known as the "Panther". Officially it was known as "Gerät 46", "SdKfz 171" or "PzKpfw V" but the troops in the field gave their machines real names like "Hetzer", "Brummbär" and "Maus" (the last...
