Re: Preferred screen Resolution

Whoever wrote that blogspot has never heard of pixels per inch. A 1080 display does not mean you have 1080 pixels top to bottom... 1366*768 exists because TFT screens and laptops. It just so happens that you can fit a resolution of 1366 into a standard 14" laptop monitor without increasing PPI. It'...

Re: Preferred screen Resolution

1080p + is the most common "display type", world-wide. It is low by computer standards, but almost all digital TV's and even phone-screens are now at-least 1080p. 4K (2160p) is the next television standard, which I am sure will be like lazer-disks and plazme-tv's... A phase to a "real standard", of ...

Re: Slap some sense into me? I see this as an easy way to ma

You have to realize that "earnings" are calculated in odd ways. You don't actually see what they "make", just a sample of a calculated month. That being said... Many artists there do more than just make "one novel". Most do commission work and other creations. They use that as the gateway for paymen...

Re: Need help with non-linear story design. (Free-roaming)

Yes, my issue wasn't so much the looping, as my "train of thought" about looping, for this game. (It is just what I am use to working with, by nature of game programming.) I did look around the code for the games I found the greatest interest in, but at some point, they essentially just do all progr...

Re: Need help with non-linear story design. (Free-roaming)

Yes, I have played many games of this nature... Some have time-loops, some don't. I much prefer the ones with time-loops that are not "race against the clock" style games/novels. I hate mouse-killers, "10,000 clicks per story", which is why I ultimately decided to use RenPy, again. (I have played wi...

Re: Ren'Py 6.99.12 Released

Loving this version more than the prior ones... Seems dramatic enough of a change to count as version 7.0 now. So many major changes. What can we expect from version 7.0? My wish-list: - Game-loops! (Optional looping function/methods, designated as "Main-loop" and "Sub-loop". Main being like 15-30 F...

Re: Need help with non-linear story design. (Free-roaming)

Looping is not too critical, now that I think about it... I can get-away with a simple "check", after each move/action, for progress and moving everyone around. I am currently trying to isolate each characters individual code, and comment the hell out of the areas. The locations are just variables, ...

Re: Need help with non-linear story design. (Free-roaming)

Yes, I am expecting some labor involved in writing it... I just don't want it to be a total nightmare to code. I think I get what I am stumbling on... I keep thinking in "Game-loops", which RenPy, as far as I know, does not use. Normally, when I program this stuff, there is one core game-loop that c...

Re: Confusing issue "show eileen happy", always shows her...

I agree, but that isn't what is happening for this specific item. Thus, the confusion. The first thing someone would do with "eileen happy", is not create an image "eileen happy.png", but replace that specific name with something they might have for a test image. Like me, "Test.png", then wonder why...

Re: Confusing issue "show eileen happy", always shows her...

typing "show test" should load "Test" or "test" or "tEst", just as "image xxx = "Test.png", would load "Test.png" or "test.png", or "tEst.png". What should it show if you have all three images? And in similar note, whch file should it load if all three are present? (Most OS aside from Windows have ...

Re: Confusing issue "show eileen happy", always shows her...

Yes. it is just an annoyance. Partly because it is in every "New project", and partly because it is not clearly explained right there, where it is trying to "show you", how to display an image. It shouldn't be in the "new project" creation at all. A "new project" should be 100% blank. Still, typing ...

Re: Confusing issue "show eileen happy", always shows her...

I think you responded before I finished editing. :P The "issue" (confusion), was with the file-name "Test.png". (Capitalized letter in name.) RenPy, for some reason, converts all image-names to "All small letters", internally. So you need to use "show test" to display "Test.png", without using (imag...

Confusing issue "show eileen happy", always shows her...

I get that we can "Add an image named 'eileen happy.png', to our 'images' directory, to change the image"... However, who the hell wants an image named 'eileen happy'? Changing the name and adding a picture with the same name, still loads 'eileen happy', though there is no actual image 'eileen happy...

Need help with non-linear story design. (Free-roaming)

This is my situation, in a nut-shell... The game/story I am trying to make, is not exactly linear. There are linear elements to the story progression, such as points of no return, advancements... However, the game/story is intended to progress as you "explore" and "interact" with characters. You pro...
