Re: Is there a market for Twine games?
What Twine can do depends on the story format. There are many, though only a few ship bundled with the IDE. So far I used a couple of them successfully: Sugarcube 2 is by far the most powerful. It has modal dialogs, save slots and a sidebar with room for stats or a custom menu, among other things. I...

Re: Is there a market for Twine games?
You've seen a few? Look more closely. :) Twine is wildly popular among game developers. As for whether it's viable to sell games made with Twine... you could ask the same question about Inform 7. Some people do it. No idea how successful they are. But there's a market, which is more than can be said...

Re: A list of all paid/free/partly paid VN engines I can find.
I would add WebStory Engine to the list. It may be officially discontinued, but it's still available and open source, very easy to set up and use. Certainly seems much nicer than Monogatari, and surprisingly powerful for how it's made to be used.

Re: Good programs for organizing a strongly non-linear narrative?
This may sound like heresy in the Ren'Py forum, but maybe Twine? It's great for revealing non-linear structures like that. And there's precedent in using it as e.g. a dialog editor for other kinds of games.

Re: Resolution for VNs?
Yeah, I saw the full screen, but because I don't now much about programs, I guess I assumed all the games that stretched to fit my full screen where the full size. Silly I know, but while I know a lot about art programs, I've never really thought much about programs in general until now. This is a ...

Re: Resolution for VNs?
Heh, just adding so you know, I'm new to making VNs, it's not that I think bigger sizes are better because of the crispness, it's because I thought that was the only way to have a game full screen on my computer. xD So I'm guessing I'm wrong to assume this? In the preferences dialog of a Ren'Py gam...

Re: How do you find motivation
Pick a subject matter you care about. Don't just set out to make whatever. That works for small one-off projects; with a visual novel, you're usually in for the long haul. So make sure you really, really want to see it finished. Edit: Elta is also right. The difference between motivation and discipl...

Re: Resolution for VNs?
Please consider people with 15-inch business laptops when choosing your resolution. An 1152x720 window (to keep the aspect ratio at 16:10) will fit just fine on a screen of 1280x800, or the more common 1366x768. And there are still netbooks floating around that can only do 1024x600, or for that matt...

Re: Is Lemmesoft Dying
Conventional wisdom says that forums are dying out as a general rule, not least due to increased competition from other forms of social media. And it's definitely true for some forums. But I see this kind of complaint even in places that are quite busy, like right here. Am lurking every day, you kno...

Re: A question/Massive feature Request for Ren'py
Here's a trick question for you: how should that GUI work?humblefool wrote:Is there any hope of creating a GUI for the actual writing part of the program? That would make things a lot easier, methinks, and also perhaps extend the interested userbase?

One thing that's going on is a forum topic drift. This was originally a Ren'Ai game-making forum, but we're sorta expanding. I'm not sure if I like that or not... I like the character work in Ren'Ai games. I wonder how many nanoreno games won't be Ren'Ai games. Well, how many Ren'Py-based works hav...

Without the objects-of-desire element, we have adventure games like Monkey Island or Myst, along with mystery visual novels like Phoenix Wright. Both of these classes of games aren't really discussed here. So if I use Ren'Py to make, say, a science-fiction story, will it be a visual novel or not? A...
