Trying to temporarily disable some key bindings

I would like to temporarily make some keyboard shortcuts unusable for a brief section of my game before making them usable again afterward. I've looked at the keymap documentation and I know which specific ones I'll need to disable, but I'm not sure what the best way is to do it. I found this old th...

Re: renpy.input question

I'm not sure if it's possible to completely disallow the player from pressing enter without typing something first, but you could always make it jump back to the input after they do that, by doing something like this: label ask_a_question: $ question = renpy.input("What do you want to ask?") if ques...

Re: Image problem

Double check that you have the name and location of the image perfectly, and that when you try to show them you're calling them the exact same thing you did when you defined them. This usually happens when you've just made a typo or something. If you can't find it, you could copy and paste the relev...

Re: Outlining specific lines of text

Update: in case anyone else stumbles across this thread with the same question, I get it now! I just first had to set the default style of text to have an invisible outline, which I did by adding this to options.rpy: style.default.outlines = [ (1, "#0000", 0, 0) ] Once that invisible outline is ther...

You can however give your dialogue an invisible outline style, eg. outlines [(2, "#0000", 1, 1), (2, "#0000", 0, 0)].
Okay, thank you - I think I understand how it works a bit better now. So where would you put that outline code in order to apply it to a certain line?

Re: Outlining specific lines of text

Have you tried the outlinecolor tag? https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/text.html#text-tag-outlinecolor Right, I knew there was something important I forgot to mention! Yes, that doesn't seem to work for some reason and I have no idea why. I don't get an error message or anything, but the outlines don'...

Outlining specific lines of text

I have a point in my game where I want to outline a few specific lines of text, and I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to do that. I've seen instructions for how to make all text outlined by default, or make a specific character's name and/or dialogue outlined, but nothing for just outlini...

Re: The Light at the End of the Ocean [Friendship][Ontological Mystery][Point-and-Click][Commercial]

Well, if you're looking for beta-testers, feel free to get me to try it! Since the development of my game is wrapping up, I've been BINGING VNs... read through 3 of ebi-hime's free VNs and also read RE:BURN too! The time I play games least is when I'm making them... ;_; That's great, I'm looking fo...

Re: The Light at the End of the Ocean [Friendship][Ontological Mystery][Point-and-Click][Commercial]

This is exciting and the art style really stands out! How long approximating is the story going to be? Thanks Quill! I'll have to get some more feedback from beta testers to be more confident about it, but I'm estimating the playtime will be a couple hours or so, varying a bit based on how long you...

Re: RE:BURN [Nano2019][Horror][Email Inbox/Chat Simulator]

Hey parttimestorier! I played this game back in April and I really enjoyed it a lot. Thanks so much, Zelan! I'm really glad you liked it. I had a lot of fun writing all the different typing styles. I'd definitely like to write another game that takes place online sometime, because there are so many...

Re: A controversial question (love interest that look 15 when they're 22)

I think that's something that a lot of might people might think is in bad taste, even if you keep any sexual content in the story non-explicit and "off-camera." Even if it absolutely wasn't your intention, people who hear about it are likely to get the impression that the vampire thing is a flimsy j...

Re: Sites that Specialise in Covering Indie VNs?

I don't know of very many, but I enjoy EVN Chronicles ! He posts every week I think and reviews a wide variety of English VNs. I found some recent posts he did on My Little Pony fanfiction VNs really interesting - there were so many strange niche projects I had never heard of. I also sporadically re...

Re: What to expect when starting a VN project

I've only made a few short VNs myself, but I can try to answer some of your questions. If you take a look at the "I am an Artist" section of the recruitment forums , you'll find a lot of artists who are open for commissions, and you can try to estimate a budget based on the average of what various d...

Re: How to make an app (like choices and Episode) to host my own Visual Novels?

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to just do that in RenPy. You'd just need the GUI of your main menu to have several different options that jump to the different parts of the story, and persistent variables for the things that you want to transfer between.
