Re: Referencing Ren'py variables within Python block

You would need to make sure the file creating the variable is parsed before the file using it... basically name them in the order you want them.

Alternatively, you could adjust the python init to be higher than zero, with: init 1 python:

Have you renamed a .rpy file and not deleted the old .rpyc file?

Re: Apply style to entire screen?

style_prefix is for that... just note it is a prefix though, so the style names will want suffixes to designate the widgets to apply it to: style mystyle_text: color "#456" size 32 style mystyle2_text: color "#A67" size 32 screen mytest(): style_prefix "mystyle" text "Test" vbox: pos (200, 0) text "...

Re: Am I compromising performance?

Choice is performed by evaluating (and weighting) all the choices, then using a simple random number to determine which one is chosen. The issue though comes down to prediction having to predict all those possible images prior to use. It might be best to ask "when are we expecting the image to chang...

Re: Simple question about dialogue

@remix, is that what your use of the """ would do? Sorry, too new to know what that meant. Yes... inside triple quotes, if you do 2 line-breaks it effectively creates a new say npc "Line 1" npc "Line 2" Is the same as npc """Line 1 Line 2""" # or npc """ Line 1 Line 2 """ However, what I was referr...

Re: Simple question about dialogue

\n is going to be easier than typing {p=0} each time... For info, if you wanted one character to 'say' multiple lines, one after another (with a click between each) you could use: npc """First paragraph (line of dialogue) Second line (spoken as a new dialogue due to 2 preceding line-breaks) Third di...

Re: Is it possible to change a game setting mid-game?

I'd advise against trying to redefine style parts (as you'd likely need to call renpy.rebuild_styles() which is quite a heavy function and will lag for a moment) The alternative (and likely better) way is to set what_prefix and suffix attributes for your characters (you can even make them all differ...

Re: Changing text (what id "what")

You cannot alter it mid interaction as it has already done all its size calculations. The what text is actually created fully, cached in the background, then each individual glyph is cropped out to be blitted to the surface (to reflect the cps setting). If you want to make changes before the text is...

Re: Possible to link strings directly to characters?

I'd suggest stepping back and maybe rethinking... Ask yourself why you are passing in just a name rather than an object to the function... an object would be more versatile, especially if you use dynamic character names. If you do have to just pass in a name, ask why your gossips list is not a dicti...

Re: Notification on choice buttons

You could alter the choice screen to support arguments, then add them in menus: # screens.rpy screen choice(items): style_prefix "choice" vbox: for i in items: textbutton i.caption: action i.action if i.args: hovered Notify(i.args[0]) Then in menus, pass in an argument: label start: menu: "choice" (...
