Re: OverflowError: value too large to convert to short
Well, the above approach worked. I eventually found the primary issue, whatever it was, and then it went back to displaying the normal code errors. It took a good while but I managed to iron them out and got the program to boot without crashing! Finally! Now...to go through this 400,000 words of pro...

Re: OverflowError: value too large to convert to short
The VN does not start at all, freezing up, stalls RenPy for a long time, and then spits out that error. Hm, do I need to modify every chapter to get it boot? At the moment, I have the entirety of the story within a single .rpy file, so I guess by your logic I could re-save it as a .txt file, then cr...

Re: OverflowError: value too large to convert to short
Nah, I mean, I have spent HOURS and hours over the course of a year and a half formatting this whole thing to VN code. 6,000 characters is still a lot for a single line, I shouldn't have anything that long -- but it's sounding like I MUST have something, at least one instance, somewhere, that's just...

Re: OverflowError: value too large to convert to short
All right. I tried what you said, here's the new traceback. I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred. After loading the script. Re: OverflowError: value too large to convert to short
But how can I figure out where this is occurring in the code? Or is that not possible? This is a MASSIVE project, and I'm used to being able to use the traceback to pinpoint where the issue is, so this is weird. Do I need to just comb through the entire thing and try to shorten longer lines? I don't...

OverflowError: value too large to convert to short
I tried to search for this error but can't seem to come up with anything. The previous thread I saw about this error had the person just boot up a newer version of Renpy and that fixed it. I just tried installed Renpy 7, just in case, and booted from there -- it seemed to auto-detect where my files ...

Re: Life is Strange: All Wounds [Drama][Romance][Supernatural]
The use of music from other stories is actually both an expression of stories that have influenced me as a creator, while also having an inherent plot element to them (and no, not some crossover thing, it's more symbolic). Ah, you maybe don't remember, but at the end of LiS, Max confronts this hosti...

Re: Life is Strange: All Wounds [Drama][Romance][Supernatural]
I'd probably label this more of a visual novel than a game, for sure. Sort of like Steins;Gate, but...with much more frequent reader choices? Yea, definitely exploring psychological issues in the fallout of both endings of the game. The different art styles are primarily a symptom of this being a no...

Converting prose to VN?
So I've been working on the story for my visual novel for two years now. It's finally finished, in prose form (I was posting each chapter of it online as I went so I could get feedback and share the story with those who just want to read). Now that the story -- or should I say, the draft script -- i...

Re: Setting formatting for specific characters/narration
Ah, duh! Don't give the character a name. How did I not think of that? I assumed that it was required for some reason.
I think this answers both of my questions, thanks a lot!

Setting formatting for specific characters/narration
I might just be overlooking something, though I've tried to search for this for a while... I haven't figured it out yet, but is it possible to set a character's formatting so every time their dialogue shows up, it has special formatting? Example: o "{color=#A4A4A4}{i}Are you sure you're ready for th...
