Re: Using the Same Transforms from Other VNs?

I'm curious what a lawyer will have to say about this and am very much hoping one shows up to chime in. :) I found this on Wikipedia... There is a certain amount of work that goes into making copyright successful and just as with other works, copyright for computer programs prohibits not only litera...

Re: Enter name window when pressing Start button

This is the documentation for ctypes: https://docs.python.org/3/library/ctypes.html I used this to create pop up windows in my game (for which the user can take action that's then recorded in the game). It's probably not the easiest for someone not reasonably familiar with Python, though, and the co...

Re: Enter name window when pressing Start button

You can always import CYTPES or another Python package. (Screens will only work within Renpy. I don't believe there's a way to have it pop up new frames, but it's doable with a Python call.)

Re: Finding the Right Words

The right words are heavily dependent upon the characters (both the one speaking and the one doing the encouraging). A strong silent type is unlikely to give a big speech about being brave. More likely he or she will just say, "You got this." Or "that's tough" or not say anything at all and just put...

Re: Balancing narration with dialogue, improving dialogue and banter

@Mutive , thank you for including examples! It helps to illustrate things better. You're right, people would definitely not say that in a real-life situation, which makes for unbelievable dialogue (I would laugh if that actually happens in real life). Yeah, it's so unnatural ! But I see it all the ...

Re: Balancing narration with dialogue, improving dialogue and banter

Also, for the love of all that is holy, please do NOT make your characters shove in facts that they (and their listeners) should understand to avoid narration. Good: Merchant "That will be six dollars" Narrator "In the United States, dollars are a form of currency." You "I'll take it!" Awful (becaus...

Re: Balancing narration with dialogue, improving dialogue and banter

I don't think there's any reason to prefer dialogue to narration or vice versa. Don't make a quiet character talk a lot just to talk! Similarly, don't throw in narration just to put something on the screen. As a reader, I want to read interesting words and wonderful stories. I enjoy dialogue heavy p...

Re: Writing Expierence

I find that there will always be spelling and grammartical mistakes in quick reply posts, that doesn't necasarilly mean that when writing stories they will be there since stories would go through multiple iterations with lots of editing making sure that there are not, thats why I think its best to ...

The community is good. There's also a lot of official documentation that I've found very helpful. :)

Re: How do you find motivation

Mostly I hate to start something then not finish it. I remind myself that if I don't get the game finished, then I've wasted hundreds of hours so far. That's pretty motivating! But also, if I find myself struggling to work on something, I ask why. Maybe it's a bad idea. Maybe my heart isn't in it. M...

Re: Writing Expierence

I hope I don't sound too mean, but if you want to write, be *very* careful about your spelling. Titling a post with "Writing Expierence" (it should be "writing experience" looks sloppy. (I'd be hesitant to bring someone onto a project as a writer who missed a fairly obvious spelling error.)

Re: Free GUI/Menu Image Packs [CC BY-NC 3.0]

If, hypothetically, I wanted to use one of these but change its color slightly, would that be okay? (I was thinking of potentially tweaking the electronic deco pack, but would probably go for blue vs. green. I think I can do the alterations myself, but don't want to do so if alterations aren't allow...

Re: Gameplay Effecting Choices vs World Building Choices?

I personally prefer making choices in VNs, mostly because if I wanted to read a story with pictures (and no choices), I'd pick up a comic. :) So "pointless" choices to me are fine, especially if they aren't truly pointless. (i.e. regularly being asked "do you prefer eggs or bacon?" "Oh, eggs, I'll g...

Re: Safely send out demos

In general, creative works are copyrighted to their creator. So as long as you can prove that it's yours (i.e. records such as emails, screenshots, etc.) you are legally in the clear. Of course, someone might still post it/take credit for it/otherwise be annoying. (I think that's unlikely, but all i...
