Re: Writing visual novels that are geared toward adults

No two adults are the same, but I will say that as someone on in their late 30s, I've seen/read/played a lot. This makes many tropes that I loved as a kid kind of boring to me now. (I just really don't need another lost-orphan-who-turns-out-to-be-the-prince fantasy. I really don't. I've probably run...

Re: Looking for Feedback on a First Chapter Draft

I think emotional stakes are great! But again, the better that can be defined earlier on, the easier (I think) it is to get a reader hooked. i.e. people needing a new teammate because they like playing a game - that's fine, but that's also a great many Friday nights for me (so not something worthy o...

Re: Looking for Feedback on a First Chapter Draft

I really loved the voice. It sounded natural and fun! My primary concern is that I didn't get a particularly strong sense of the stakes. Why does playing the video game matter? (Is there something in particular that rides upon the outcome? If so, that would be awesome to know up front - like if ther...

Re: How do you write the manuscript of a visual novel?

I use Word a lot with pseudo code. (Although sometimes I use real code, too, to make transferring faster.) So I might write something like this: a "Do you want to get a dog?" menu: "Do you want to get a dog?" "Yes": set flag for dog b "I'd love a dog! They're so cute!" "No": b "No way! Dogs are slob...

Re: Starting with the pinnacle, then gluing highlights

I don't think there's a single right way to write. I know some people start with a conclusion, then work their way to it. Others start with an interesting scenario and figure out how it eventually concludes. Others outline the whole thing, then write to flesh it out. They all can work. I tend to (pe...

Re: Stats/Inventory Screen Critique

It looks decent to me. However, the HP/MP almost look cut off in the first frame. (Which would worry me as a player as I need to know what my HP is!) I prefer the look by Moirnoir, FWIW, as it looks a bit more open/intuitive. (It might also make sense to have the "constantly showing" screen with HP/...

Re: Husbando Rater [NaNo 2018] [Parody]

That was adorably cute! I died a few times, then failed to bring world peace another few, so clearly I was not the best rater. But I got a few laughs out of it. Thanks for creating it!

Re: test mini game Corsar

Yay, thanks! The second link worked! I thought the game was super cute, with fun game play and nice graphics. To offer a critique (as it is demos/beta testing!): - I think the intro was slightly long-ish, during which I wasn't 100% sure what I was supposed to do. (I figured it out pretty quickly, th...

Re: test mini game Corsar

I'm getting an error on the download link. (I think it may just be my computer as I tend to keep fairly tight security controls on it, but it might be worth double checking.)

Re: YOU LEFT ME. [Free][Horror/Humor/Surreal][Ludum Dare]

Oooh, I played this one and loved it. The visuals are breath-taking (and delightfully unusual) and the music fits perfectly. I loved the story, too, and found it to be just about the perfect length. Thanks for creating this!

Huh. It looks like I have an executable file, but I'm still not able to run it for whatever reason. (I honestly have no idea why.) My apologies. :(

Re: The Wanderers Project [Demo Available]

I'd love to give feedback, but I couldn't open it. I tried to download it (PC version), but it just showed a bunch of random files (none executable that I could see). I suspect there's a lot of cool stuff going on, I just wasn't able to access it.

Re: Book on Ren'Py/Python

Probably not. :( The reason is that Ren'Py documentation is already pretty comprehensive (think the tutorial that comes with the engine as well as a lot of resources on the website). My guess is that if there was additional functionality that might be otherwise hard to find, with clear examples, it ...

Re: What do you think about a story without a hero or a villain

Not over used. I honestly think there are fewer "morally gray" stories out there than ones with a Big Bad and a super heroic protagonist. With that said, taste varies *tremendously*. (Which is part of why it's good to have more than one opinion when possible + to take all opinions with some salt. So...
