Re: Chapter vs. Whole Game Release
Personally I don't mind serially released things, they can be done well and even though you might get a discount by waiting to buy the bundle, you have to wait for all episodes to be released and try to avoid spoilers in the meantime, and sometimes you can buy the discounted version up front in the...

Re: Chapter vs. Whole Game Release
I can as many novels were released this way.
(I also read a lot of comics which also tend to be released serially.)

Re: Chapter vs. Whole Game Release
Also, if someone buy a few chapters : when the first one is finished, will the next one start automatically ? I don't want the player to have to quit the game in order to launch the next one. Especially if the chapters are shorts. I believe it's not too hard to do this. (I haven't looked into how, ...

Chapter vs. Whole Game Release
Hi everyone! I've been working on a game and had a few questions regarding releasing it all at once or on a chapter by chapter basis. As creators, has anyone done this before? How has it worked? Do you have any recommendations on best practices? As players, is this something that you like? Is this s...

Re: Learning the Renpy Engine.
LOL why? It's easy language I'd agree that it's an easy language. But if you're not already familiar with programming, *any* language can seem daunting. (And while I'd agree that the basics are pretty easy, doing fancier stuff can be pretty tricky. This is true for a number of advanced Ren'Py featu...

Re: How high should I set my goal on kickstarter?
A few thoughts... 1. If you don't meet your goal, you don't get the funds. So...that's a thing to keep in mind. If you don't think you can make $5k (or $20k or $100k or whatever), don't set it that high or you won't get the funds when the kickstarter ends even if you get a lower amount. 2. Alternate...

Re: Visual Novels for children?
One more thought - Even if it's a story isn't explicitly *aimed* at children, children often very much enjoy media geared at adults. (Esp. children in the 8-12 range. I think I was reading Asimov by middle school, and read my first adult novels around 8 or so.) So while definitely some VN fare *real...

Re: How much should you pay a musician?
However, to be honest, I would probably buy an already existing track if I only had $25/track. Or look after free-to-use tracks. There's a lot of good free ressources that can be used even for commercial work. Agreed. I've had fairly good luck sourcing free music and sound effects. (Of course, if y...

Re: Does the player character in a game set on a fictional computer have to be a blank slate?
I'm pretty sure nothing is mandatory. There aren't video game gods who smite creators who do foolish things like create non-blank slate protagonists. :) With that said, most desktop simulators give their protagonists blank slates so that the player can feel like they're the main character (vs. that ...

Re: Market Study : illustrations and animations commissions in VN
You're very welcome!
And yes, it would be awesome if they had larger budgets...but I think they lack the market for them, alas.
I will have to check out "Pillar of the Earth", though!

Re: Market Study : illustrations and animations commissions in VN
1) Did you need illustrations for one of your project ? If yes, for what purpose ? (Sprite/background/CG ? Merchandising ? Promotion of your VN on social networks/website /kickstarter ? Others ?) Did you need a specific style ? Yes. I hired an artist to create sprites. Another one created some promo...

Re: What do you think about VR visual novels?
Oh, interesting. I'm glad to see it's evolved. :) But, with that said, if the game isn't super immersive without a $1000+ PC connected to the device, I'm not sure how desirable it would be. To me, at least, the fun of VR (and the reason it's worth paying for) is that it is INCREDIBLY immersive. Now ...

Re: What do you think about VR visual novels?
Such a market already exists and has been slowly growing since about 2016 IIRC. Although not technically visual novels, there have been many games of that sort released where the player interacts with a single character (usu. female) via choices and dialogue, except from a 3D perspective. I'm not s...

Re: What do you think about VR visual novels?
Oh, I'm sure games exist. (Although I've yet to hear of the headset itself supporting them - could you provide a link? I'm legit curious. Although if this is similar to the little lenses you can put in front of your cell phone, I'm going to give it a hard pass. Those *aren't* immersive and honestly ...

Re: What do you think about VR visual novels?
From my Steam experience with normal (non-VR) games, the largest part of income is coming from customers living in USA/Japan/Germany. Countries like Russia/Romania/India are making less than 10% combined together. Of course, partly because of regional pricing and piracy. Just answering this as from...
