Re: Writing Expierence

I hope I don't sound too mean, but if you want to write, be *very* careful about your spelling. Titling a post with "Writing Expierence" (it should be "writing experience" looks sloppy. (I'd be hesitant to bring someone onto a project as a writer who missed a fairly obvious spelling error.)

Re: Free GUI/Menu Image Packs [CC BY-NC 3.0]

If, hypothetically, I wanted to use one of these but change its color slightly, would that be okay? (I was thinking of potentially tweaking the electronic deco pack, but would probably go for blue vs. green. I think I can do the alterations myself, but don't want to do so if alterations aren't allow...

Re: Gameplay Effecting Choices vs World Building Choices?

I personally prefer making choices in VNs, mostly because if I wanted to read a story with pictures (and no choices), I'd pick up a comic. :) So "pointless" choices to me are fine, especially if they aren't truly pointless. (i.e. regularly being asked "do you prefer eggs or bacon?" "Oh, eggs, I'll g...

Re: Safely send out demos

In general, creative works are copyrighted to their creator. So as long as you can prove that it's yours (i.e. records such as emails, screenshots, etc.) you are legally in the clear. Of course, someone might still post it/take credit for it/otherwise be annoying. (I think that's unlikely, but all i...

Re: Having multiple writers: How to be consistent?

I think it's going to be challenging to do inexpensively. Writers, like artists, tend to have their own styles. Good writers, like good artists, can copy other artist's styles. But it tends to be less "fun" and more challenging, so you tend to get into the professional pay ranges. An editor might al...

Re: Some questions and advice on attempting my first visual novel

I'd strongly recommend outlining if, for no other reason, VNs can get out of control super fast! (Because unlike with a traditional novel, every meaningful choice that you allow the user to make theoretically can influence everything else in the game.) This doesn't mean that you need a super hard co...

If I ever use them (it may take a while as still finishing up a lengthy game), I'll be sure to credit and message you!

Re: Where Do I Start?

I started with something very simple. Like, literally just, "Let me design a five minute game and see how long it takes" simple. I enjoyed the experience, so went for something longer...then something longer still. I probably wouldn't *start* with a 6 LI game (as that's...a lot. And if you find you ...

I'd echo the recommendation for Analogue: A Hate Story. I played through it in one very long sitting and still think about it.

Re: How to Hire Help?

1. It's highly unlikely someone's going to steal your work. There are no guarantees, but stealing someone's half-finished VN is generally not a super profitable thing to do. 2. In theory, yes, you can apply for a copyright. It's almost certainly Not Worth It, though. From what I can recall (note tha...

I recently finished a commission with Leehua and wanted to recommend her. Her art is breath taking, it was delivered on time, and she's been a joy to work with! Definitely recommended! Feel free to PM me with any questions. :)

Re: How do you schedule things out?

Thanks for the response. May I ask if you do art as well? And if so, which would you put first? Art or programming. I find programming to be slightly easier but at the same time some of my programming requires art assets that I'm not entirely sure I need until I'm working on them. I don't! So I sho...

Re: Currency within a Visual Novel - How it's handled.

I've seen a steady stream, earned for certain tasks/outcomes (i.e. you do a chore and get paid), then subtracted for certain things (i.e. you go on a date and it costs $50 or whatever) Generally, as with most things that are tracked, it seems to work best when choices made about it are bilateral - i...
