Re: How can I build a VN development team?
I think either works. If there's a forum for your fandom where it would make sense to discuss the game (and might gain interest), it doesn't hurt. With that said, at least in my experience, people are more inclined to respond to DMs because they're personal. (It feels like you're not just looking fo...

Re: How can I build a VN development team?
I think I have to break the situation down to you specifically. I'm searching for artists and enthusiasts in a community/fandom where most have probably not heard of or care about VNs. When the script is finished, they will hopefully like it, but the concept of VNs is somewhat foreign for them. How...

Re: How can I build a VN development team?
This is just my opinion; do what you think is best. I recommend you start MUCH smaller on your first project (maybe something 15 minutes long), using creative commons assets. Perhaps this could be the first chapter of your longer original idea. Doing what I suggest will demonstrate to prospective c...

Re: How can I build a VN development team?
A first question might be to ask what a potential teammate gets from working on your project. Your ability to attract teammates is a LOT higher if you offer financial compensation upfront than it is if you offer a percentage on sales or credit. (Think of it this way. If you offer someone their going...

Re: Mystery getting stale or repetitive.
I think a way of avoiding the sense that the same thing is happening again and again is to make things somewhat different each time. Maybe the MC is lead to believe the wrong person is the murderer. Maybe one of the deaths has an especial resonance with the MC (a friend, a lover, a family member). M...

Re: To Villain or Not To Villain - Otome, is a passive antagonist enough?
I'd argue for the cult leader. The challenge with "cursed by the gods" or a generic cult or whatnot is that it throws the story more or less into protagonist vs. world. These stories are doable (so I don't want to discourage you if this is truly what you believe is best for your story), but they ten...

Re: Free vs Paid Visual Novels
I'm personally more likely to play a free game vs. a game I have to pay for. This is doubly true if the free game is from a developer I've never heard of and lacks reviews that make me think, "Oh, I need to play that!" This is in large part because, with most games, I open them, play for maybe 15 mi...

Re: When it comes to trying to make the MC neutral.
Even with only three options of each of these categories, it means you will be mapping out 27 different dialog trees for every single combination of a user-created backstory, not including choices. That assumes you use all options at once. I can see a number of dialogue options where the race of th...

Re: When it comes to trying to make the MC neutral.
I'm okay with both. I've played games with neutral avatars (think most Bioware games) and those with very set ones (think the Witcher) and liked both. There are advantages (and disadvantages) with both options. The nice thing about a neutral avatar is that I can truly create the character the way I ...

Re: What's more fun: few characters, or many characters?
I think stories (of which VNs are one example) can work fine with very few characters. There are novels that work great with only 1-2 characters, so it's possible. With that said, I think it depends a lot on the story you're trying to tell. A grand, sweeping epic is going to feel "off" if we only se...

Oooh, this is super cool.
I have no idea if I'll ever find an excuse to use it, but I love what you've done.

Re: Visual novels and "Interactivity"
So here's the question, do you think interactivity as an important part of visual novel ? Why ? Yes. If I wanted to read a comic book, I will read a comic book. (I do occasionally read/enjoy kinetic novels, but it's an occasional thing in large part because I truly do believe that if I want a linea...

Re: Do you think there is a market for non-anime visual novels?
I don't think the boundaries between genres are that obvious, but I definitely agree that customers should know what they're buying. I guess the topic we're approaching now is what counts as a VN and what doesn't. In a way that's kind of subjective. Personally I consider the Ace Attorney games to b...

Re: Do you think there is a market for non-anime visual novels?
Be rest assured, I don't intend to change my vision for the sake of "fitting" into the genre. My concern is that the term "visual novel" sets up certain expectations for people. Maybe it's better not to use it in advertising. I think you almost *have* to state what type of game it is in advertising...
