Re: Where Do I Start?

I started with something very simple. Like, literally just, "Let me design a five minute game and see how long it takes" simple. I enjoyed the experience, so went for something longer...then something longer still. I probably wouldn't *start* with a 6 LI game (as that's...a lot. And if you find you ...

Re: Recommended EVNs for those who've never read/played them before

I'd echo the recommendation for Analogue: A Hate Story. I played through it in one very long sitting and still think about it.

Re: How to Hire Help?

1. It's highly unlikely someone's going to steal your work. There are no guarantees, but stealing someone's half-finished VN is generally not a super profitable thing to do. 2. In theory, yes, you can apply for a copyright. It's almost certainly Not Worth It, though. From what I can recall (note tha...

Re: [OPEN] LEEHUA - Character Anime Artist for hire (Line, Flats, Cel, Semi-Real)

I recently finished a commission with Leehua and wanted to recommend her. Her art is breath taking, it was delivered on time, and she's been a joy to work with! Definitely recommended! Feel free to PM me with any questions. :)

Re: How do you schedule things out?

Thanks for the response. May I ask if you do art as well? And if so, which would you put first? Art or programming. I find programming to be slightly easier but at the same time some of my programming requires art assets that I'm not entirely sure I need until I'm working on them. I don't! So I sho...

Re: Currency within a Visual Novel - How it's handled.

I've seen a steady stream, earned for certain tasks/outcomes (i.e. you do a chore and get paid), then subtracted for certain things (i.e. you go on a date and it costs $50 or whatever) Generally, as with most things that are tracked, it seems to work best when choices made about it are bilateral - i...

Re: How do you schedule things out?

I force myself to work on the game for a period of time each day, few (to no) excuses. (e.g. I might let myself have the day off because I'm moving cross country, but not because I feel tired) After that, I tackle the most critical and/or difficult stuff first, leaving more "fun" stuff for later. An...

Re: (Question) Putting an overworld into my game?

I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but you can use the screens feature in Renpy to very simply make a point and click game. (I can provide some example code from my own game, if you'd like.)

Re: Training readers' anticipation

I think it was (might be wrong on this) Hemmingway who said don't try to build anticipation. Just tell the reader everything. I disagree. But I think a lot of writers try to build anticipation by *hiding* things from the reader, which rarely works. (There are some notable examples where it does, but...

I would love a logo design, assuming you still have slots! (I wouldn't turn down a promotional video, either.) My upcoming game will be free!

Re: Options reveal route direction?

To me, I think it would depend on how complicated the choice system is. I agree with others that it's going to not feel very game like if literally all I do is hit "toggle relationship route" when I want that option. But if there are a number of choices that all affect the relationship route (or any...

Re: Partial Voice Acting Lines

It's a bit hard to suggest without seeing the script. Like you mentioned above, I'd focus on their "catch phrases" or other things that they might say really often. (Like, the knight might regularly say, "mi'lady" or "at your service". The princess might say, "At least I didn't get my shoes wet" or ...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?

You can't do any of it on your own. I actually might start with world building. Your world will influence your characters greatly. Your world will influence the types of plots that are even possible. I'm currently reading Gone with the Wind. There would be no plot to the story if there was no Civil ...

Re: What do you do for your Art? (for non-artists)

Lemmasoft has a lot of options under the creative commons license. Some are only for free stuff, true, but there are a few that will allow commercial. This would probably be my first option. After that, 100-200 pounds seems really low, even with revenue sharing. (If I was trying to earn a living wag...
