Re: Test environment for Ren'Py for Android
You have a few options you could consider. First off, you could put Froyo (haven't tested with Gingerbread) on your PC and run the game in an emulator: http://a1.blogspot.com/2010/05/putting-android-froyo-andor-sdk-on-your.html Has the additional advantage that the emulator can be set to different s...

Re: Camp Handiba Development Thread
While someday I would STILL like to make a VN version of this, I thought I'd let folks know that the book version has just been published at Barnes & Noble (ebook only for now):

Re: College Romance - Making a VN in Flash
First off, appreciate Salek's efforts to make doing this a bit simpler if I ever try to do this again. As far as the proceeds to date, the game is returning about $30/month in ad revenue, which means a payout every 3-4 months. Nothing to quit the day job over, but the fact that it's pretty steady su...

An interesting first step. Are you planning to add in some of the simple animations or... ?
Even if someone didn't want to port their full game, I would think that this would be useful as a preview that they could then link to their main game. Nice job!

Re: Senior Year
Maybe you can do a girl like that for your next project (of course for that to work he may have to be lds too) :D Grew up in rural Colorado with a fair number of LDS members in my high school, and I actually live near the temple here in SA, so that's not as far fetched as it might seem 8) what is y...

Re: Senior Year
Teankun, Given your signature line, I'm not sure how I could rewrite her in a fashion you would find acceptable. She was modelled after someone I knew ( no, not intimately) in college, but I have no idea how things ended up after. That said, I personally would find her less believable if she were a ...

Another data point - a Polish developer who breaks down his income from ads on his site versus ads on his Android application, etc: http://www.kreci.net/reports/developer-income-report-5/ Evidently he made $1691 from the Android ads last month. Not enough to live off of (in the US), but certainly en...

Re: Dating sim games- how many romantic interests do you lik
At least 2 (or what's the point), but beyond that it depends on how much story you're willing to tell. I'd rather have two or three fully fleshed out characters than six or seven where there are really only two stories unless you bump into someone at the wrong time and then have a couple quick scree...

Anyone here who has experience with Appcelerator Titanium?
Was a little surprised to run across some information on Hacker News (news.ycombinator.com) about a tool that lets you write games in Javascript, HTML5, or Python and run it on PC/Mac/Linux AND iOS and Android: http://www.appcelerator.com/products/titanium-cross-platform-application-development/ So,...

Re: Android RenPy?
Evidently the Android CPM is a little higher. Of course that's partly because they get a new chance to show an ad every time the level restates. Equivalent would be if you had a banner that refreshed with each new text box. Anyway, a bit better breakdown from another Android developer (numbers are a...

For the person asking why someone would want ads rather than paid directly for downloads: http://phandroid.com/2010/11/26/rovio-over-7-million-people-helping-those-angry-birds-out-on-android-christmas-update-coming/ SO consider if they only get paid an average of 1 cent per user one time. That's sti...

Re: Android RenPy?
Thanks, yes probably not worth buying anything new with less than 2.0. Unity requires 2.1 too! I assume you cannot upgrade the OS version once you buy a phone ? (obviously not 1.6 to 2.0 but maybe from 2.0 to 2.2... ?) You can upgrade, but how hard it is, and how well it works, depends on the vendo...

Re: Android RenPy?
Will renpy require android 2.0-2.1 or work even with smaller/cheaper phones that have android 1.6 installed ? (as I am about to buy a new phone, was thinking if to get an android one) Can't speak for PyTom (obviously), but given that the latest numbers are that over 70% of the user base is now in e...

Re: Android RenPy?
From what I gather playing with my own android phone, the most reasonable way to go for Android would be to have the RenPy interpreter as a separate application, and package the full project into some sort of single packet file to be installed onto the sdcard in a prearranged location where the And...

Re: Voice Acting in VN games
FWIW, you should also consider the SIZE implications of adding voices for all your characters. Senior Year was a 83 meg file and most of that was NOT art and program. One of the problems I've been running into with doing a straight Android VN since 83 meg programs and mobile phones don't go together...
