Re: Ren'Py 6.14 Pre-Releases

Just got around to trying this out (6.14.0.329 for now). I must say the script navigation in the launcher is really, really slick, even if I don't think I have an immediate use for anything except the TODO search (which I will definitely be using). One error I got with the TODO search though: if the...

Re: Problems with ASCII codec and "ñ" [Solved]

Huh, so one of those things. I've had that happen before with other kinds of problems, where compiling anew just fixed the problem - though instead of copying my scripts and assets over to a new folder, I just deleted all the .rpyc's and bytecode.rpyb from the /game folder, and then ran the game aga...

Re: Problems with ASCII codec and "ñ"

Have you tried making your files UTF-8, but *not* preceding your script strings with u? That's what I've been doing for non-ASCII characters in the script.

Re: Anyone know how to put screens on top of each other?[SOL

I was just looking at the other thread about quit prompts and was wondering how to solve it. I completely forgot about that code I wrote for Touhou Mecha, lol. >_> Nice. A clarification on that code - config.quit_action allows you to customize what happens when you click that upper-right red X butto...

Re: DirectX Update Problem

Thank AxemRed, not me. >_> I know what you're talking about though; my laptop also has a graphics driver that was customized by the laptop manufacturer, and I couldn't auto-update it with Windows Update or Intel's website tool. I ended up manually searching for drivers on Intel's website, until I fo...

Re: Adding a trailing zero to a number (or, formatting money

Don't use binary floating point for monetary values. I guess you mean using the decimal module instead of regular floats? Yeah, that is probably a good idea, particularly if you're saving a single money value and doing math with it all the time (additions/subtractions, etc.). At some point, some fl...

Re: [SOLVED]Screen Language help

I see, so it happens with loaded games too. I'll keep that in mind if I try to fix this bug sometime. In the meantime, yeah, your {nw} workaround should work well for the start of the game.

Re: [SOLVED]Screen Language help

Yeah, I've done that in my game, and it mostly works. I added to the readback.rpy function store_say() (which is called whenever a line of dialogue is reached), so it looks like this: def store_say(who, what): global readback_buffer new_line = (preparse_say_for_store(who),preparse_say_for_store(what...

Re: Is it possible to use ATL or something similar with scre

You can apply transforms to screen elements, like: window at left: ... I don't think you can use the with statement on screen elements, but for every transition that's used with with (such as dissolve), you can write a similar transform: init: transform dissolve_transform: alpha 0 linear .5 alpha 1....

Re: Yes/No prompt with QUIT and Skip toggle ?

2. For the start skipping/stop skipping button (that's what you mean by skip and unskip, right?), the action you should use is Skip() . Preference("begin skipping") also works, as that does exactly the same thing as Skip(). The action you're using right now is Preference("skip", "toggle"), which act...

Re: DirectX Update Problem

After you click Launch to run a game, what does the log.txt in your Ren'Py directory say?

Here's the log.txt I get in DirectX mode. I'm pretty sure my graphics driver is up to date, but it seems I don't have Angle for DirectX. Maybe that's your problem as well?

Cool, glad to hear it works! (And yes, no problem with a credit mention.)

I have no experience with NVL mode though, so that request is probably a bit out of my scope.

Re: The hardest but addicting game you ever played

Oh, this is actually a bit of an old topic, but why not. I don't really seek out hard games, but a couple stand out to me: (1) F-Zero GX. It's an amazing and incredibly deep racing game. It has a fairly steep learning curve, and the story mode is infamous for its difficulty (Chapter 7, anyone?) - ev...

Anyway, if you still got time, could you show me how to make it that the preference takes effect immediately after the player changes it? I'd be really grateful on that. Okay, let's give this a try. (1) Remove or comment out the following part of readback.rpy. The goal is to write an equivalent ver...

Re: A chart of the western VN community

That's the test on whether you're a perfectionist artist or not. If you are one, then you're selected to do the more important art. Of course there's a problem with this scheme: if you're a perfectionist artist, you'll end up re-doing everything at least 5 times, and there can be a lot of character ...
