Re: Your ~Favorite~ cliches and tropes
I agree with SilverxBlue about childhood friend stuff. I also like little sister/big brother bonds (non-sexual ones moreso than sexual ones) because I'm very close to my little sister. It was the highlight of "Higurashi" for me. As much as I hate using "trope" terms (because I feel like people who u...

Re: Too Many Ideas!
Brainstorm some more until you have what you really want to do in your head. A sporadically chosen plotline will never be finished... think it out until you're passionate enough about an idea to actually keep going with it. Being distracted by another idea is a sign of lack of passion. I'm right the...

Re: Dramatic cliches
I figured you yourself weren't jumping on the south hate bandwagon, but I thought (and still think) that your VN might cause some people to do so.
That doesn't mean I think you should give up or anything. Just show some redeeming qualities too.

Surely renpy has the capability to do custom macros? I haven't spent a lot of time with renpy recently (been developing in AS3 and KiriKiri in addition to my day job in Matlab
) but it should have that capability.
Just make a macro cshow or whatever and make it hide then show.

Re: Dramatic cliches
In one of the VNs I am working on, the main character is an albino and his parents are very well to do lawyers in a Deep South town. The parents feel awkward with all of the social pressure and they view the child as an embarrassment to them. Their motivations fueling the abuse of the child are the...

Re: Dramatic cliches
Childhood friends meeting again and falling in love isn't that unrealistic folks. If I met my second grade girlfriend again now that I'm 22, I would take her out to dinner and catch up and who knows? Maybe we would hit it off. Lastly, to the people who say it's hard to get out of the "friend zone".....

Re: Any other good methods to reduce file size?
Yeah, if the sampling frequency is more than 44khz, that's a horrible waste. People can't hear frequencies above 20khz, so 44 (as just above double, the required sampling frequency to hear 20khz) is tuned to human capabilities. Dropping the sampling rate to 44k is highly recommended if your audio is...

Reducing a song's volume/dynamics shouldn't decrease the filesize lossless-ly... unless OGG works in mysterious ways, which I suppose it might. Oggs probably use some variant on the wavelet/singular value decomposition frequency breakdown techniques, so I suppose decreasing the volume might push a f...

Nice sprites. Feng is just a little... hmm... flamboyant for a mechanic though, wouldn't you say? Mechanics can't wear white shirts every day and fluff their hair like that, the grease would be awful. On the other hand, you show good insight into keeping the chef's hair short, as it should be. The o...

Re: A question about character art/sprites
Ultimately, VNs won't become well-known until they leave the anime sphere. Fact of the matter is, lots of anime fans aren't into reading. Lots of people in general aren't into reading. So when you limit yourself to the intersection of the anime fans/japanophiles and readers, you won't have a big mar...

I knew what you meant, Deji, when you said "average"... I was trying to put your self-criticism in perspective using my own strong point, data analysis ^.^
And I do consider everyone to be an artist. Even though I always fail at drawing, I still try. Most everyone does.

Tease your readers by putting in an ending early in the story that seems like a typical premature bad ending, but is actually the only (or one of the few) ending(s) where the main character lives.

Re: A question about character art/sprites
It's not so much an issue of scale as it is a lowered threshold. They would similarly be "epic" or perhaps "beyond epic". Then again, maybe you were right and I'd quote Unreal Tournament... "G-G-G-G-GODLIKE". But I think you've failed to take a proper average. As a statistician, I would argue the ex...

What BS. I've seen your deviantart page. Don't lie to me!
Average my rear end. That stuff was epic.
