Re: Ideas Dump
Wouldn't that form of gameplay make all endings the same ending, just from a different point of view? Interesting concept though, if done right. Depending on how expansive your plot is, the endings could vary differently. One character could sacrifice himself to save another, a second character cou...

Re: Ideas Dump
Have a multi-character story where instead of making decisions, you choose which person to follow. If that character meets someone else, you can switch to that character. The problem with really open-ended plot structures like this is that you can't control what the reader gets first in the story. ...

Re: Is second person protagonist always right?
With regards to the second part of the discussion, "should the protagonist be, if not unnamed, at least never shown" and related discussions about the faceless protagonist... The first person perspective flows better when you are looking through the eyes of the protagonist. Thus, for first-person ga...

Re: Is second person protagonist always right?
In my opinion, second person would never work for a vn, but possibly would for a datesim. A novel requires a protagonist, which inherently requires characterization. A sim game might just be creating a shell or avatar for the player... which was likewise the goal of cyoa books.

Re: What is your favorite fantasy creature?
You scared of zombies but not others? I think vampires and werewolves are far more dangerous compared to rotted-brain zombies. With shotgun, you could easily dispatch those zombie ^_^ No bones about it (literally?). Zombies would be weaker than a regular human being due to decaying tissue. At max, ...

Re: Ideas Dump
You have the main character who seems to be an ordinary guy, but in his narration he continues to break the 4th wall and talk with the player. Sounds like one of the main twists of the unbelievably popular VN "Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo". Except in that one, it's dialogue instead of narrati...

Re: What is your favorite fantasy creature?
I'm not into fantasy, so the only fantasy beings I like are the ones that are used for horror. Thus, anything evil. Vampires that eat (bloodsucking is so mundane) people, werewolves, demons, ghosts (particularly scary to me), etc. A solid ritual cannibal can be scarier than any fantasy creature, tho...

No? XD Well, I think wearing gigantic ribbons count as wearing ties XD Yes. Yes it does. No man would ever deny you an invitation to his club if you were wearing a gigantic ribbon . Well, hopefully it wasn't around your neck, though... but I can see how you'd get the misconception that ties choke y...

Just figured I'd throw ideas out there so you can take what you want. Dunno anything about your project so I'm sure most of these wouldn't be suitable. Agriculture: Traditional (early-game focused) or Alternative (late-game focused) Traditional: Selective Breeding (like artificial insemination, etc)...

Re: I've made a very basic renpy player in flash as3
Wouldn't it seem more useful to make Flash scripts playable in Ren'Py rather than the other way around? It's easy to create a VN engine in Flash, but it's tough to write any other kind of game (minigame for example) in Python. So I feel like more benefit would come from creating a Flash embedder in ...

Re: When choosing options for your MC in VNs...
"Eat a hotdog" vs. "Eat a burger" affecting plots is just useless It was just an example of my opinion that I don't want options to do something the protagonist has no motivation for doing. BUT... it COULD make sense. If, for example, it was merely a joke which led into a large subplot where two lo...

Re: Questions about endings and such...
On completion: I consider a VN a complete work. I feel like it's disrespectful to the author and artists to miss a single scene. (My opinion for myself, that doesn't mean everyone should play the games this way...) This is probably why I prefer flowcharts to "this is how you get X ending" walkthroug...

Re: When choosing options for your MC in VNs...
I'm not really an RPG player or into the whole "good versus evil" thing, so take my comments with a grain of salt. I immediately close out a game that presents a "pure evil" possibility. It's just unrealistic. Not one person, barring a sociopath (which would require a great deal of psychological res...

I hadn't really thought of using svn for hobby projects either until I joined the VN translation scene, where it's pretty common.
