Re: Why, IMO, it's hard finding a game to like as a female g
This is the entry of that site I value the most, and best describes why #2 and #3 of your list feels like sexism, even if it was never intended to be. That blog post is stating that failing to actively seek out women's perspectives is a misogynist act (lolwut). It actually states quite a few things...

Re: Scrolling text in NVL mode
I implemented something like that a few years back (though not in Ren'Py). Everytime you would normally append text to the main textbox, instead you create a new Text object for that text. Internally, you store a list of all Text objects created this way. When the new Text object is added, you updat...

Re: How do you decide what fonts to use in your VN?
Unless your font size is very small I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use serif fonts.Celianna wrote:You should always use a Sans Serif fonts whenever possible, use serif fonts if you absolutely want to have a 'fancy' font - I suggest Times New Roman and that's it.

Re: Scrolling text in NVL mode
The complexity of a scrolling textbox depends on some implementation choices: Is the up-scroll animated? Is one line of text added at a time, or one sentence (possibly consisting of multiple lines)? Are all lines the same height? Is the text clipped at the top/bottom, or should there be a fading edg...

Re: Why, IMO, it's hard finding a game to like as a female g
And do you, or do you not, agree with the statement: "it's hard finding a game to like as a female gamer"? And what if one of us disagreed with that statement? What magically happens? You have a clear conscious and don't have to consider a female perspective in future games you make? Why would any ...

Re: Why, IMO, it's hard finding a game to like as a female g
@AxemRed... So, me, Aleema, Papillion, the OP, Sapphi and the the numerous other women who have mentioned we have a problem with current games are not valid examples of there being a problem with sexism and games...? Reread my posts, I never denied there being a problem. I deny the problem is so se...

Re: Decorus Carcer / Beautiful Prison (Visual Short Story)
Just finished it. Impressive graphical effects, they give the game a very cinematic feel. You don't really get to know who Hadrian and Hope are, and what kind of world they live in. Fleshing out the characters and world a bit more would give some flavor to the story. Technical whining: Why is the ap...

Re: Why, IMO, it's hard finding a game to like as a female g
@AxemRed, No offense, but just because you don't see problems doesn't mean no one else does. This isn't a new concept and the very fact you have an awful lot of women in agree that something is wrong is a bit of a sign that something just might be wrong. You even have guys like the gentleman who wr...

Re: Why, IMO, it's hard finding a game to like as a female g
Mm hmm, sure. Picking me apart doesn't make what I said any less true, you know. Have you read the link Camille posted? I totally didn't write that! :D The reason why male privilege is so insidious is because of the insistance that it doesn’t exist in the first place. That willful ignorance is key ...

Re: Why, IMO, it's hard finding a game to like as a female g
I still don't see it. What's so overwhelmingly male about the storytelling in those games that it makes them hard to enjoy? Because you have the privilege not to see. Your views and needs must be being catered to, because you don't see or feel a lack of it. That's not your fault, but, again, open y...

That sounds incredibly sexist, but I'm gonna have to say [citation needed] because I'm pretty sure it isn't true.papillon wrote:There is a problem when the typical industry response to pointing out those skewed results is "Well games are for guys anyway."

Re: Why, IMO, it's hard finding a game to like as a female g
What I have issues with is the story is so overwhelmingly male, the thinking is male, all the females are portrayed from a male perspective, all the males are portrayed from a male perspective and the exceptions to the rule are far and few in between. Concrete examples please. Most games really, es...

Re: Visual Novel review show requests.
Those don’t get translated into English much, so when we do dive into the Dating Sim genre of games we will likely not be talking about the tame s ones. That sentence feels unnecessary. The rest of the genres of VNs are just like that of any other book or video game. The distinction between "gamepl...

Re: Android Test - Matches & Matrimony
What emulator are you using? The one that comes with the Android SDK. Does Moonlight walks have the same issue for you? It used to work, haven't tested it recently. Maybe Ren'Py requires OpenGL ES 1.1 now? Sorry on the download size, it's a big game with a LOT of assets. I personlly don't feel like...
