Re: Minigame going away. Here's what's coming.

Coolio. Hm.. Somebody knows Python 'cause he wrote a proggy in it to parse an Omnigraffle file so they could use it as their level editor. http://softlanding.metalbat.com/?p=117 Now if only there was an turn based tactical land combat simulation engine in PyGame that could be coerced into into matin...

Is Soft Landing written in PyGame? *blinks*

They wrote their own VN engine right?

That is possibly the awesomest thing ever. :-) http://mvl.mit.edu/EVA/biosuit/index.html Even the concept of lines of non-extention is awesome.

Too bad Rocket Girls did not live up to its potential in the long run...

Re: Recommended Free Sound and Music Resources?

Jamendo http://www.jamendo.com/en/ has got a pretty good variety of background style music. Try searching for ambient, movie, or game. And yah, Free Sound had enough of what I needed that GarageBand will let me mix up the rest. Um... so does any admin type person actually care about the wiki being e...

Re: How to do politically correct writting (a simple trick)

It's a bit weird, admittedly, Die nette Stadt and all that That said, my Dad just finished reading a book ('Sign of the Cross', IIRC) by an American author, which features 'Dover University', supposedly founded in the reign of Elizabeth I and featuring buildings designed by Christopher Wren, which ...

Re: {H} Opinions on "A drug that makes you dream"

This is the first commercial VN I've played so take my comments with a grain of salt... I seems to be someway down Aeka's path, not sure how much since I've been assiduously avoiding spoilers. I actually found her to be incredibly sympathetic, which is why I found hooking up with her the first time ...

Re: image efficiency question

Changing the whole posture for various expressions can be more dramatic and expressive - but requires more resources (artist wise and memory wise) One thing to consider might be N basic postures each some some different number of sub-expressions which change only the face. For example: Girl Relaxed ...

How productive are you?

I've seen from poking around the forums that folks generally use 1,000 words = 5 minutes of gameplay as a rule of thumb. Which is great for estimating that if I want a 30 minute story experience I need about 6,000 words. Now the question is how long does it take me to make 6,000 words? From one brie...

Re: What is the best strategy for dynamically lighting my scene?

Sure, you can define a python function to do this. init: python: def if_developing(a, b): return ConditionSwitch( "developing", a, "not developing", b, ) image Violet = if_developing("Violet_Red.jpg", "Violet.jpg") AWESOME. I just taught myself Python in 30 minutes. http://hetland.org/writing/insta...

Re: What is the best strategy for dynamically lighting my scene?

I still use separate images for Night / Day. The reasons are as follows: 1.) It's smaller, actually. 2 x jpgs for one background is more efficient than 1 jpg + 1 tinting png. Gotcha. That's why I'd rather be able to do it with an image operator or a solid displayable to do the tinting. 2.) Creating...

What is the best strategy for dynamically lighting my scene?

Thanks to the tutorial and puzzling through the demo files I've gotten a good start on Ren'Py. I'm still pretty much a n00b though. I'd like to ask for advice on how to best tackle the problem of using Ren'Py's very rich image processing tools to manage my asset complexity. Here's the problem: I wan...

Re: Recommended Free Sound and Music Resources?

Yup, freesound was a good find. I think I'm still going to have to mix my own ambient loops but at least I feel I have the building blocks.

For now I just need a sound or two to build my proof of concept and make sure I understand Ren'Py.
