Re: Name our Saves

You can override the default save screen with a custom one that allows you to name files, but it's a fair bit of work.

Re: Anime anatomy: Man nipples in VN sprites and other art?

You're right, but players might try to deny the nippliness of the guys should any of them keep their shirts on. Hm. Guess we'll have to add gratuitous wet T-shirt scenes.

Re: What does this log possibly mean?

After I closed my game, there was an error log and it shows this: Traceback (most recent call last): File "D:\renpy2\renpy-6.12.1\renpy-6.12.1\renpy\execution.py", line 261, in run File "D:\renpy2\renpy-6.12.1\renpy-6.12.1\renpy\ast.py", line 630, in execute File "D:\renpy2...

Re: Anime anatomy: Man nipples in VN sprites and other art?

Given the evident popularity of male nipples, I've decided to make sure that all the shirtless guys in my next major project have at least four.

Re: Ren'Py 6.13 Pre-Releases

There's no input cursor in the tutorial game's "What is your name?" prompt either, for me. (Verified both running natively from the launcher in software mode and running a distribution in wine in software mode.) Are you testing in software mode or in one of the accelerated modes? Also, qui...

Re: Ren'Py 6.13 Pre-Releases

No cursor is shown when using renpy.input in 6.13.4.1637 for me. (Debian amd64, using the software renderer and the nouveau video driver for X, created a new test project to make sure there wasn't any conflict from older versions) Trying to set a cursor manually $ fnord = renpy.input('fnord>',caret=...

Re: Is the use of an Installer such a big deal?

I personally strongly prefer .tar.bz2 to .deb or .rpm when it comes to third-party software, for an assortment of reasons - the most important being that I'm not comfortable running random code as root, and package manager install scripts will run as root. Secondarily, packages have a tendency to br...

Re: Ren'Py 6.13 Pre-Releases

I poked around 6.13 a bit last night, found some GL initialization bugs in 6.13.0.1589 which were fixed by a shift-U update. The newest version ('Eye of the Storm', or 'pygame window' as the titlebar calls it) does have one weirdness with transitions - in the tutorial game, on Eileen's very first li...

Granted. You are now well. All your friends, family, and acquaintances come down with it - it didn't go that far away, after all.

I wish my neck didn't hurt.

Re: What would a villain do?

Move all the real data to somewhere more secure. Place a computer containing encrypted, but partially inaccurate information in the penthouse: information that I know the hero knows, the payoff records for a corrupted official who has double-crossed me, and the security plans for a couple super-secr...

Re: Working Towards 6.14

Also, while I'm not a cryptographer, last I looked, it appeared that vanilla RSA signatures may have been broken a few years ago; while there is a padded RSA approach that's supposed to get around this, the padded one was patented at the time. I don't believe these attacks are relevant to the way R...

Re: Working Towards 6.14

Parity files are only really useful when you're dealing with an unreliable transmission medium. Ren'Py's current updater uses cryptographic hashes to check to see if a file's changed and downloads only the changed files; hashes of file segments are theoretically possible. Also, while I'm not a crypt...

Re: Idea bouncing

The easiest way to fling the Earth out of the sun's orbit naturally and in one piece is probably a close pass by a wandering superjovian or brown dwarf perturbing our orbit (or Jupiter's orbit) sufficiently that future interactions wind up flinging Earth out. (The helium flash might knock Earth out ...

Re: Question: Will renpy ever have a GUI?

If you just want something to embed in your game that tells you what to type to show a given image, gives you a list of the images you actually have available, and possibly adds a tiny bit of context sensitivity (i.e. defaulting to showing you variants of the images currently on screen, assuming you...

Where Are You, Cthulhu? [Linux]

So, Papillon wanted to do a Lovecraftian game with Carmen Sandiegoesque (or should that be Sandiegoan?) gameplay, and in the process of explaining the project to me (nikulturny desu, for I spent my larval stages rolled in a leaf amongst ancient tomes of disturbing lore, lost in time and space, rathe...
