Those are both very nice pictures; very smooth shading.. but I don't see them as having so very different styles. I think it all boils down to the tone of your next project to decide which style to use. If it's cute and fluffy, do cutsie art with light colours, subtle shading, and lots of gentle cur...

I just used a pre-set 'rough pencil' tool to add texture to her jeans, by colouring some in a darker shade and then some a lighter, then shading over top of it. It would have been so much quicker if I just had a textured filter or som...
