Re: The Walk [Psychological][NaNoWinter 2015]
I really enjoyed this. The initial post was intriguing, so I downloaded it before reading much about it and went in without really knowing what to expect. When prompted to enter a name for a game, I usually just pick something on a whim that will sound funny when other characters say it. In this cas...

Re: Basing a VN on a historical figure?
If you're worried about being limited, you could also try the Quentin Tarantino approach and do something "historical" that just blatantly disregards actual history on purpose. Like the ending of Inglourious Basterds where they straight-up shoot Hitler with a machine gun. Just another opti...

I'm just happy to have been born in a time period where the music of Jens Lekman exists.

Re: Making a Good Game: Clearly Designate Paths
This a cool thread that has made for some interesting reading. The gamist/narrativist/simulationist categories are new to me, but they seem like a really helpful way to think about how choices in a game matter. Today I Learned: I'm a narrativist. IMO, solid writing and a focused message can make up ...

Very cool, especially with all the options. I'm super glad that
I'll have to keep an eye out for that second episode...
you gave us the option to put a bow in Dough's hair. That was great!
And I agree with what everyone else has said: the voice acting is a great fit.I'll have to keep an eye out for that second episode...

Re: The last book you read or what are you reading right now
I read a few intro pages of a few Christopher Hitchens books but Dawkins' works seem a bit more readable to me. Know any Hitchens' books that are nice? If you're into the (anti-)religious stuff, I've heard Hitchens's Mother Theresa book is a quick read and... contrarian, to say the least. Funny tit...

Re: What are you listening to while you write?
No Idols, Domo Genesis. It's definitely odd listening to the stoner-rap member of the Odd Future collective while I'm writing a VN that takes place in 15th century Italy, but The Alchemist's production on the whole album is just out of the world and incredibly ethereal. It's surprisingly good for p...

Re: Trigger [Drama][Realistic Fiction]
We're going a different route from your average dating sim or anime-styled presentation. It's a more "realistic" story meant to have reach beyond the visual novel scene. I believe in visual novels as a potent storytelling medium and I'd love to see their audience and range of expression e...

Re: The last book you read or what are you reading right now
I really liked Dawkins's "The Blind Watchmaker." I also like the juxtaposition of Dawkins coming right after GK Chesterton. :) Two writers with very different worldviews... While I haven't read any Chesterton, I've heard he's similar to and probably an influence on Hitchcock, who is one of...

Re: Knowing [fantasy, suspense, free] *ALPHA FOR DOWNLOAD 24
Hey, I finally downloaded it and had a chance to work my way through the beginning. As I said earlier, I really like the setting and concept, and I think those are strong points. If you're looking to make edits, the main issue I notice (and you may already plan on addressing this) is that in its pre...

Re: Endless Halls [Choose Your Own Adventure, Cute, Horror]
Agreed with Pooki and ZennyPai, the style is great and the main theme music is fantastic.
I will wait to try any demos until closer to completion, since I'm not so great at the nuts and bolts of Renpy myself, but I'm intrigued by the main post and will definitely be following this one.

Re: Telltale Games (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, etc
My favorite part of both Walking Dead games is making Clementine swear and drink. For some reason I took great pleasure in making Lee a kind, empathetic father figure 95% of the time but having him be totally lax on minor vices. I was glad the second season gave me more options to lead Clementine in...

Re: Length of Game Extras?
FWIW, the "extra" mode of the famous VN Hatoful Boyfriend is about 4 times longer than any of the individual story branches and is easily the best part of that game. Admittedly, Hatoful Boyfriend isn't exactly the typical otome game... But the point stands: People will read something if it...

Re: WAKE UP [Short] [Sci-Fi] [14 Endings]
I enjoyed this game. TBH, I found the handmade backgrounds kind of charming... maybe because I'm a fan of lo-fi bands like Guided By Voices and Ween. If you were interested in doing more background art yourself, you can do a lot with a cheap artist's pen, a scanner/camera, and a free image editor li...
