Re: A question for VN players
Thanks for all the great feedback guys (and gals). So to sum it up, it seems that most of you are generally attracted to good art, but will only stay if there's a good story to back it up. That seems logical enough.

What is config.gamedir? Is there another way to handle data (written to disk) with Ren'Py?

opening text files
I'm trying to write to a text file, but for some reason it creates this text file in my home folder instead of creating it in my game folder. Is there a way to tell it to write to the game folder in a way that will work regardless of the OS of the end user after the game is published? python: f = op...

Adding python modules
Is it possible to add python modules so as to be able to import them in a Ren'Py game? If so, how do you go about doing this?

Re: NaNoRenO for 2011!!!!
Damn, got my script down, and I've got a fair amount of backgrounds and characters, but I don't think I'll be able to make it. I'm still planning on getting it finished thought, so perhaps next week (when things get a little less hectic). Good luck everyone and congrats to everyone who makes it, it'...

Re: [NaNoReNo 2011] The Scarlet Macaw
Update: I'm currently at over 5500 words and Day 1 is pretty much complete. I'm hoping to finish working on Day 2 tonight and perhaps start working on backgrounds tomorrow.
I currently have 11 characters if you count the parrot.

Re: suggestions for Bionic Heart 2
Isn't there a market for short games though? I mean I have Starcraft II and the two latest Fallout games on my computer and I NEVER play them because they would take up too much of my time. I enjoy a short game every once in a while. I say market that as a GOOD thing and not as a drawback. I don't t...

Re: suggestions for Bionic Heart 2
I think that focusing on the limits of the engine is a cop-out. Books only contain text and yet the possibilities for storytelling are endless. Add to that interactive pictures, choices and programming, I think there is a vast array of games that can be made. The strength of Ren'PY IMHO is that it h...

Re: suggestions for Bionic Heart 2
I think battles can work well in VNs. Personally I think that if you try to please everybody, you end up pleasing nobody. You should really focus on what you think is fun and what inspires YOU. From experience I can tell you that if you ask everybody what they want and you give it to them, they can ...

Re: suggestions for Bionic Heart 2
I like the art for the most part. Although the girl's hands are clenched tighly for no apparent reason. I personally think the games are fun when the characters are interesting. Since this is a sci-fi game that focuses a around a cyborg, I would read a lot of Phillip K. Dick's work. It's truly inspi...
