Re: What Platforms do you Release Your Games on?

itch.io actually does have a star rating system, but I rarely remember to use it, and I would guess a lot of others don't remember to either. I've only used itch since I'm very very much a hobbyist dev and not looking to make a whole lot of money or anything. My first game, The Dark , has 615 views...

What Platforms do you Release Your Games on?

And which have been the most succesful? We haven't exactly set the world alight yet, but I thought I'd share the statistics for our first free browser game: Witches and Bandits and Swords (Oh My) Kongregate Plays 3,037, Reviews 10 (9 positive, 1 negative), 10 followers, Rating 2.95/5 Newgrounds Play...

Re: All Creators: Itchio Upload Request!

Yeah, I like itch. It has a good community feel to it, but it's very difficult to get attention (compared to Kong or Newgrounds) if you're not an established dev.

Re: Non-English Language VNs and Translations

If your visual novel includes nonbinary characters, Queerly Represent Me has a list of over 200 translators offering help with translating VNs. Sadly, mine doesn't, and since all my characters are at least a little bit mental, they'd probably be happier if I didn't have any non-binary characters! M...

Non-English Language VNs and Translations

I just wondered if any devs had experience of translating an English language game to another language and how you found the process? Who translated it for you? Was it worthwhile? Where did you publish it? Also, for people whose first language isn't English, what VN gamesites would you recommend tha...

Re: Visual Novel Streamers/ Youtubers?

I stream story heavy games, which also includes Visual Novels. I normally stream from my Mac on Thursdays (which is where the visual novels are most likely to show up), and Saturdays from my PS4. I’m not streaming this week because I’m at a conference but I’ll be back next week. I’m currently playi...

Visual Novel Streamers/ Youtubers?

Does anyone know if there are any Twitch streamers or Youtubers who are mainly interested in VNs? I ask partly because I'm often very lazy and sometimes like to lie back and treat games like movies (I watched Vinny Vinesauce's stream of SIlent Hill 2 recently, as i was getting nowehere with the game...

Re: Any Advice Hiring an Artist?

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you and have given this a hell of a lot of thought- see this thread as proof(!) What @trooper6 says makes a lot of sense. Giving your artist a short term project to prove themselves and find out how well you work together is a good idea before moving on to a big p...

Share your Story's Teaser/ Blurb/ Elevator Pitch

...in other words, anything that condenses your story into a quickly readable paragraph or two in order to summarise and hopefully entice people to play your game. This is such as important part of writing and I've never been too good at it, so I've tried to start early for our next game- even befor...

Re: What do you do for your Art? (for non-artists)

Lemmasoft has a lot of options under the creative commons license. Some are only for free stuff, true, but there are a few that will allow commercial. This would probably be my first option. After that, 100-200 pounds seems really low, even with revenue sharing. (If I was trying to earn a living wa...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?

To each their own, I suppose. I just don't want to end up having to make something up on the spot when I'm finally writing the VN script itself if I ever encounter a scene that needs more from the world setting than what I already have. I feel that having a polished world would help me dictate the ...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?

I agree with Mammon that you should be thinking of your world and characters at the same time, but I'd suggest very slightly prioritising characters, and asking questions of them which can be answered in the world What is the character's personality? How is this reflected in the world? The character...
