"You are not allowed to make visual novels that are games."

So when I worked for $BIG_COMPANY and had to ask for legal clearance on my visual novel side-hobby, this was the answer I got. There are actually multiple layers to this, and is dependent on $BIG_COMPANY's definition of "game". 1. I'm not allowed to call my visual novels games in any conte...

Re: Free software visual novels

ArachneJericho, I doubt that you will be sued if someone else violates a copyright law. Have you talked to a lawyer about that? Btw, I think copy projection is not only morally wrong (it requires subverting the functions of someone else's computer without their consent), but actually counter-produc...

Re: Free software visual novels

OTOH, those people who copy art assets without proper licensing are probably not going to care about licensing and will do that anyway. Yeah, which means the visual novel developers get sued if we make it "easy", depending on what our licenses for those assets are. That's why I can't rele...

Yup. It looks a bit more complicated than it seems because sometimes you end up with extra passages due to the way that Twine works, but yeah, one chapter.

Re: Kaguya Hime [Free] [Fantasy] [Japanese Folktale] [Patreo

So I went back and rescripted chapter 1 and feel much better about it.

It went from a single choice to... well... this:

And the word count just about doubled.

Time to code it all in (again).

Re: Newbie, still at drawing faces, but wanted to share...

FlowerDeath, Hm, that's an interesting thought. To do some traditional art as well as digital art. I've thought about it, because it probably helps to have the writing utensil actually produce lines under it, heh (especially since I can't afford one of those Wacom Cinque tablets!). Breaking things i...

Re: Set story pathing discussion

I think this can work. Here are some usability concerns that can be easily addressed: 1. Make sure the reader knows that another run will result in another story. 2. Give the reader ways to access previous stories they have "unlocked" that don't unlock more stories than they've progressed ...

Re: Newbie, still at drawing faces, but wanted to share...

DarkSin, Hm. Being more loose with my drawing is probably a good idea. I watch the YouTube videos, and artists are so confident that they can just do loose circles and have the result come out awesome. O_O I want to be like that when I grow up! :D I've been studying some photography but I hadn't tho...

Re: Newbie, still at drawing faces, but wanted to share...

Auro-Cyanide, Thanks! I'll keep drawing. And drawing. Every YouTube video on beginning drawing emphasizes that so it's consistent to see that emphasized here too. ^_^ I'm going to bump up the resolution even more. I'm using GIMP. An artist friend of mine suggested altering my tool options now that I...

Re: Pondering the first chapter of a short VN.

I used Twine, available at http://twinery.org/ There are two versions, the downloadable app, which is older, and the web online app, which is newer and unstable as all get-out. The downloadable app is simple and lovely. You can zoom in, zoom out, there's a language you can use to actually have some ...

Re: Pondering the first chapter of a short VN.

So, um, I kind of expanded on the choices and they all matter and are suspenseful.

Also, 4000 words. With the other half of the big decision as of yet unexpanded.

I'm tempted to put "[SOLVED]" at the top of this post, lol.
