Re: Is the Forum Search laggy / borken for everyone?

On topic: It might actually make sense to archive posts older than say 2 years into a mirror database (or legacy sub-domain) that general searches do not target... With legacy gui and the advent of Ren'py 7.0 just here, thousands of old posts and threads just are not relevant any more. This is actu...

Re: How much time daily do you spend on your VN?

I've found that even if you do your best to calculate all things required for a project and the time they will take, and then double or triple that time estimate ... you will still be wrong. :( It always takes longer that you ever believed possible. Even big studios fall into this trap. You discover...

Oh, wow. Those backgrounds are great. Very moody and atmospheric.

I'm a big Junji Ito fan, and I love the concept of this. Your concept images are already feeling appropriately creepy.

I'll be following your progress. Good luck!

Re: Ren'Py Patreon Articles

LWR>>> The thing to realize is that the Ren'Py image cache uses the _uncompressed_ images, which take about 4 bytes per pixel. Not the compressed images, which might vary in size. This can be a big increase. The most extreme example of this is "images/bg panorama.webp", from the Ren'Py tu...

Re: Ren'Py Patreon Articles

I figure I'll put a post here and see if it's interesting enough to cause some discussion. Today I added a new Sponsor exclusive article, on Avoiding Framerate Glitches Caused By Image Prediction . It's an example of something that the sponsors let me write - a deep-dive on how image prediction wor...

Re: Writing woes: Self-pity and lack of motivation

Thanks, I know I have depression and I am being treated. Perhaps I should just relax and let the treatment work before taking on huge workloads? Don't beat yourself up over setbacks. Celebrate small wins and progress. And your doctor probably told you, but it can take a while to dial treatment in, ...

Re: Writing woes: Self-pity and lack of motivation

I'm not a doctor, but you may want to get yourself checked out for depression. Some of what you are describing are classic symptoms of untreated depression - a general lack of excitement or joy found in hobbies or tasks you used to love, low energy, low self-esteem. I've suffered with it myself and ...

Re: New to this world - BIG question

Well, it is up to you. If you are not an artist yourself, and want to use 3D models, DAZ is a pretty good option, and it's free. Do keep in mind that DAZ has a bit of learning curve on its own, and you'll need to learn quite a bit about light settings to get good renders with it. If you want to go t...

Re: The Raven [Poem][Visual Novel] - beginner help

I knew that using that clip probably wouldn't be 'legal'... I guess I'm wondering how to make it cited enough so that it is legal. Like, would I have to contact the creating company and get their permission? It's on YouTube and I don't think a company uploaded it so why can't I use it? The clip isn...

Re: Aligning Names in Namebox

You can always align the names to the namebox individually when you define the character. For instance:

Code: Select all

define b = Character("Bob", namebox_xalign=0.74)
Just experiment and set the namebox_xalign value to whatever works best for the character's name.

Re: How to sell visual novels with adult content?

Why do you plan to censor the nipples and genitals in your game? It's not illegal to show uncensored porn in something rated r18, and mild censoring isn't going to make a full on sex scene any more easy to sell. Because it would be almost impossible to sell the game for money. Yeah, none of it is i...

Re: Who is that girl in the forum icon?

It is one of Blue Lemma's characters. I believe she was created for a game that never actually released. One about a game show. These forums actually were started by him for his development company, Lemma Soft. He made Tales of Lemma back in 2003 as an English language "renai" game - what ...

Re: End of line expected error, plz help!

The code isn't arranged like that, I just copy and pasted it. Is there another way to post code that's more accurate? You want to post code inside code brackets, like so: Your code goes here. Posting in code brackets is important because white space and indents are vital for Python and RenPy code t...

Re: Let's Code: Every Thursday at 7pm CST!

I would actually say that you DO qualify as at least an intermediate user, for your debugging and problem-solving skills if nothing else. A lot of beginners don't even know how to get started, and feel overwhelmed and such when they meet some resistance or things don't go as they expect. The fact t...
