Re: Some thoughts on repetitive/dragging prose
In the end it's always a matter of the writer's ability to make something not too obvious or spoiled at the last moment, yet figure out a way to make it a surprising twist that isn't coming out of nowhere. Some VN resolve the issue by making an ending for every suspect to be arrested the killer and...

Re: What was the first visual novel you played?
I hate to even say the name: Do You Like Horny Bunnies? I read a screenshot LP of it when I was a kid. Shudder.
The first one I played myself was some cute BxB game about two ghost hunters and ghost boy in a haunted hospital. Can't remember the name, but it was definitely a Ren'Py game.

Re: Some thoughts on repetitive/dragging prose
Hmm, I haven't played Ace Attorney actually but I've heard that it has better mysteries and technically better writing than Danganronpa. I wish it was on Steam... My writing has been criticized for being too vague. But the moment I put in some more detail, I start feeling like I'm writing on baby le...

Re: Worst anime you have ever watched?
Star Ocean EX, it ruined my childhood by changing some of the best things about the game and leaving the worst to be.
Shadow Star Narutaru, not really bad but it traumatized me.
I've never watched anything that horrible because I tend to stop watching a series if the first episode doesn't grab me.

VNs with mute characters?
Are there any VNs where a character is somehow unwilling/incapable to speak and uses nonverbal cues to communicate? If there are, do they portray the subject with respect or use it as a gimmick?

Re: Considerations to take when creating main characters.
I don't tend to use character sheets that much, do they really work? I prefer to find out things about my characters as I plot out my story and write it. If a character starts seeming too inconsistent, I take note of that for the next draft. Am I working inefficiently?

Some thoughts on repetitive/dragging prose
As I've said before, I really love Danganronpa. But the moments where every single character alive overreacts to a stupid joke or the infamous whisper that is shown at least five times in the final chapter of the first game just annoy me so much. Now that I've started writing a VN script myself, I t...

Re: Writing woes: Self-pity and lack of motivation
Thanks, I know I have depression and I am being treated. Perhaps I should just relax and let the treatment work before taking on huge workloads?

Writing woes: Self-pity and lack of motivation
Hi, haven't been here in a while. As someone with fair writing skills but little patience and motivation I was wondering whether an extensive writing course would be helpful or not. Writing was my passion when I was a kid, now words don't seem to flow. I've been to some short courses but they didn't...

How do your diseases/disabilities affect your hobby/work?
This is a thread for the suffering artists or something like that. So, I am autistic. I consider it a good thing when it comes to creativity. However, I can't really enjoy practicing writing and creating assets due to my depression and anxiety. Sometimes I spend most of my days sleeping. I already h...

Re: Visual novels vs other mediums
Sendo, I agree about bad writing. Somehow it's really apparent in certain VNs, while in anime/manga one might be able to ignore it. Other bothersome things I've seen in lots of VNs are useless exposition and repetition. That stuff is why I can't call my dearest Dangan Ronpa games well written. I don...

What is the best way to learn musical theory and rhythm?
I'm scared of going to a group lesson to learn about music, because my starting level is below average. However, private lessons are expensive and learning on my own has always been difficult. I have taken some singing lessons and the instructor said that my singing was ok when he told me exactly wh...

Re: Visual novels vs other mediums
Thanks for the opinions! An example on how VNs>anime for me is Dangan Ronpa (mostly VNs, anyway). While the characters are walking stereotypes and the storyline is not that unique, I bawl everytime I see those characters suffer. The anime version of DR1 and DR3 however feel very rushed and the only ...

Re: VNs without dialogue
Wow, that looks so cool. I had a similar game idea visually years ago but never could create anything of substance to it. Excited to see if those bubbles will be used in creative ways. Another vague idea (someone please steal it): A Charlie Chaplin silent film style VN comedy. If that exists, my fai...

Visual novels vs other mediums
Sorry if this has already been discussed... I've often heard people saying that VNs are just a cheap way to do anime and have no merits of their own. I don't agree because I actually prefer visual novels to cinematic mediums. VNs are easier to follow and I just feel more connected to the characters....
